Job Summary:

The Accounting Advisory and Outsourcing (AAO) Experienced Senior Associate supports the work of the grants management team to BDO clients that includes  Transactional, Managerial, and Strategic support. Responsibilities include managing all aspects of government and private contracts, including start-ups, renewals, amendments, modifications, and closeouts across BDO clients.  The Experienced Senior Associate will also assist with developing and implementing policies and procedures for the team and identifying appropriate technology to automate and streamline procedure.

Job Duties:

Manages the full cycle of grants accounting for client engagements including: monitoring spending to ensure that it is in eligible categories and complies with sponsor guidelines, preparing funder reports on a pre-determined schedule (monthly/ quarterly), partnering with program staff to complete required budget modifications, and closing out each contract on the assigned portfolio Monitors ongoing compliance with funder regulations and presents possible instances of non-compliance to clients for resolution Prepares and maintains a schedule of variances of budget to actuals by contract to highlight areas of underspending or one-time opportunities to recover previously unbudgeted costs Performs account analysis and proposes Journal Entries for assigned contracts as part of the monthly grants close process Collaborates with the client Finance Team and/or outsourced team members to maintain salary allocations for grant funded positions  Coordinates requests for supporting documentation during desk audits and similar requests from funders Supports all aspects of government contract audits including pre-audit preparation of requested documents and supporting schedules Prepares audit schedules for funder specific audits and assists in the preparation of the SEFA schedule for the client’s organizational audit (as applicable) Maintains contractual records, grants correspondence, subcontract information sheets, and a calendar of grant reporting (programmatic and financial) In partnership with the Team Lead on the engagement, helps to guide the work of junior support staff, including coordinating deliverables with offshore resources and BDO Rise team members Displays an understanding of the internal controls required to review the requirements of federal, state, and local grant awards Other duties as required

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance, required 

Experience

Five (5) or more years of professional experience in Nonprofit finance management, required Experience with analyzing direct and indirect cost allocation methodology used by clients and preparing a worksheet for negotiated indirect cost rate proposal, preferred

License(s)/Certification(s)

Software

Proficient in Microsoft Office products, required  Excel proficiency, required 

Experienced with non-profit accounting systems, Intacct (Sage), preferred

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong knowledge of federal, state and local government grant administration regulations including the CFR and Unifrom Guidance Working knowledge of NYC contracts administered by the Department of Homeless Services, Human Resources Administration, Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, the Department for the Aging, the Department of Youth & Community Development, the Department of Education, and the Department of Housing & Urban Development Working knowledge of NYC & NYS grants administration portals, including , PASSPort, Statewide Financial System and the Consolidated Financial Reporting System Ability to work independently and be self-reliant while still working effectively in a team environment Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and other stakeholders Ability to have a strong attention to detail and the ability to analyze data and communicate the results in a concise manner Ability to effectively handle multiple projects concurrently  Ability to travel as needed  Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.   California Range: $95,000 - $115,000 Colorado Range: $95,000 - $115,000 NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $95,000 - $115,000 Washington Range: $95,000 - $115,000
