Join our client's team as an Accounting Specialist for a critical project involving the decommissioning of a waste to energy facility in Long Beach, CA. We are seeking a detail-oriented individual with strong accounting skills to track expenditures, prepare invoices, and provide analytical support for revenue and expense analysis related to outside contractor and utility negligence.

The Day-to-Day:

Track expenditures on a cash basis and prepare accurate monthly invoices for costs associated with the decommissioning of the Waste to Energy facility.Conduct analysis and substantiation of lost revenue and expenses resulting from outside contractor and utility negligence.Provide clerical and administrative support during the decommissioning period, including data entry, filing, and documentation management.Communicate effectively with clients regarding invoice inquiries and audits, ensuring prompt resolution of any issues.Utilize accrual and cost basis accounting principles to accurately capture and report financial transactions.Demonstrate proficiency in ERP systems, particularly PeopleSoft or Oracle, as well as advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.Exhibit strong analytical skills to interpret financial data and identify trends or anomalies.Maintain a professional demeanor and excellent communication skills when interacting with stakeholders, both internally and externally.Work onsite at the facility to ensure close collaboration with project teams and timely resolution of accounting-related matters.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the overall success of the decommissioning project.

Qualifications:

Minimum of an Associate's degree in Accounting or related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.Proven experience in accounting roles, with a strong understanding of AP, AR, and month-end close processes.Familiarity with accrual and cost basis accounting methodologies.Proficiency in ERP systems, particularly PeopleSoft or Oracle, and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.Excellent analytical abilities with a keen eye for detail.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.Prior experience in waste management or energy sector projects is a plus.
