Actuarial Assistant Manager/Manager – Consumer Lines

Key Objective

To assist the Chief Actuary in managing the reserving and monitoring of the retail/consumer lines, namely the Motor portfolio. The role will lead the monitoring of Motor portfolio mix, claims trends and rate adequacy. The role will work closely with regional actuarial colleagues and local claims to identify trends and insights of the portfolio.

The role will also have the chance to build and deploy statistical predictive models. The role is expected to assist in local statutory reporting where applicable, although not the focus of this role.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Lead the process for the reserving and planning for the Motor portfolio.
Lead the non-production monitoring of the retail portfolios (Motor and A&H).
Manage the analysis of claims experience, business performance and financial condition for the Motor portfolio.
Conduct reviews of pricing proposals.
Manage analyst(s) in their data preparation and analysis with focus in improving efficiency, autonomy and accuracy.
Assist with and manage (where applicable) the preparation of local statutory report and financial condition report.
Collate key insights from monitoring, discussion with different departments and analysis.
 

Skills

Proficiency in data manipulation applications such as SQL, SAS
Familiarity with actuarial tools such as ResQ and Emblem would be advantageous
Familiarity with generalised linear models would be advantageous
Ability to motivate junior staff members and lead by example.
Ability to plan and execute to ensure timely delivery of results.
Ability to think critically and work autonomously
Ability to communicate the results of his/her technical analysis verbally and in written form
Positive work attitute with focus on continous improvement
 

Experience

At least 5 years of actuarial working experience for Manager role.
Data manipulation experience
Familiarity with the Motor portfolio in Malaysia
Technical experience in the reserving of insurance liabilities
Some technical experience in insurance pricing
Experience in the coordination of information from and the communication of results to relevant stakeholders
 

Qualifications

Relevant undergraduate degree or higher
In the process of taking exams to become a qualified actuary under the following faculties:

The Society of Actuaries of the United States of America
The Casualty Actuarial Society of the United States of America
