All Virginia Program Director

The University of Virginia seeks candidates for a Director of our All Virginia Program.  Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost for Enrollment, Commonwealth Partnerships, the All Virginia Director will lead efforts to recruit, support, and retain exceptionally talented, diverse, and service-oriented students, regardless of their economic circumstances. They will develop and foster partnerships between the University of Virginia and underserved high schools to expand opportunities for Virginians.  

 

This role offers an opportunity to lead a transformative project that aligns with UVA's mission of dedication to excellence and affordable access. Positioned in the Enrollment Unit, which includes the Office of Undergraduate Admission, the Office of the University Registrar, Student Financial Services, and the Virginia College Advising Corps, the All Virginia Program Director will join engaged, innovative colleagues working collaboratively towards this mission.    

 

The position requires strong project management skills, knowledge of current trends and issues in higher education, a capacity to advance inclusive excellence and postsecondary access, and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders within UVA and across the Commonwealth of Virginia. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

In partnership with colleagues across Enrollment, the Director will develop and advance annual goals for the All Virginia pilot program, including: 

 

Program Leadership 

Responsible for the overall operation of All Virginia program  

Develop strategies that serve and care for students and their families, and make UVA more accessible and attainable, especially for students who are eligible for federal Pell Grants

Lead the structure and initiation of a pilot summer precollege program at UVA 

Collaborate with colleagues in Undergraduate Admission, Student Financial Services, and UVA units outside Enrollment in continually adjusting and improving outreach efforts  

Serve as a resource to all of Enrollment in areas of access and inclusive excellence  

Plan and administer program budget, ensuring that resources are allocated strategically and effectively and managed appropriately 

 

Program Management and Stakeholder Coordination  

Lead the implementation of strategies aimed at increasing applications, admissions, and enrollments of Pell Grant-eligible students at UVA from targeted high schools. 

Ensure alignment of project activities with the broader goals of the initiative and UVA's strategic priorities. 

Create a travel and on-Grounds visit plan for participating high schools. Work closely with Enrollment colleagues to execute plans and visits.  

Engage with principals, counselors, teachers, students and families at high schools to understand their needs and perspectives, and to improve UVA processes and outreach accordingly; disseminate learnings throughout Enrollment    

Coordinate within UVA (e.g., Provost, Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Affairs) to develop programming and support services for current students from participating high schools 

 

Communication and Outreach 

Build relationships by communicating meaningfully and regularly with school counselors, K-12 colleagues, and community partners  

In partnership with the Director of Enrollment Communications and other communications colleagues, develop and implement communication practices to increase clarity and inspire certainty about UVA admission and financial aid among prospective students and their families  

Organize events, workshops, and outreach programs to engage students, families, and educators, showcasing the opportunities available at UVA and other Virginia public institutions. 

Partner with the Virginia College Advising Corps and selected community-based organizations on initiatives, programs, and events.  

Engage alumni from participating high school who attend UVA. Coordinate communication between current and prospective students. 

 

Evidence Informed Practice 

In partnership with the Director of Enrollment Intelligence and Analytics, develop an understanding of participating high schools, communities, and students through an analysis of date from various sources including VDOE, SCHEV, National Student Clearinghouse, College Board, and Slate; disseminate learnings throughout Enrollment.

Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and benchmarks to track progress towards enrollment goals and assess the effectiveness of implemented strategies 

Conduct regular evaluations and reporting to project stakeholders, highlighting successes, challenges, and areas for improvement 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Master's degree or a demonstrated mastery in their specialty area normally signified by significant equivalent experience.

The successful candidate must have five or more years of experience in education or a closely related field.

Experience working with students on the transition to college with an understanding of the admission and financial aid processes is preferred. In particular, the candidate must demonstrate:  

Ability to collaborate and build relationships with stakeholders in University leadership and Virginia high schools and to sustain effective partnerships 

Experience in coordinating events  

Willingness to travel to schools to meet with leadership and counseling teams 

Ability to oversee a grant-funded budget process 

Ability to work successfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and life experiences, and to help colleagues do the same;

This position is located in Charlottesville with the potential to work in a hybrid environment. 

 

The projected start date is July 1st, with an anticipated salary range of $65,000 - $82,000 based on qualifications and experience.  This is an EXEMPT level, benefited position.  This position is a restricted position with an initial 3-year term and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance.
