Analyst, Indirect Tax

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Analyst, Indirect Tax reports to the Manager, Indirect Tax and will be responsible for handling multi-jurisdictional sales & use, and ad valorem tax issues for numerous entities. This position will be involved in compliance, general ledger account reconciliations, tax research, vendor & customer tax issue resolution, audit assistance, tax automation system maintenance, special projects, and administrative tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Assist in preparation, filing, and payments of monthly, quarterly and annual sales & use tax returns.  Assist with ad valorem tax research, renditions, and payments. Scan copies of all notices, tax returns, payments, and supporting work papers. Provide support on general ledger tax account reconciliations.  Work on customer exemption certificate issues and maintenance for multiple entities. Responsible for research of sales & use and ad valorem tax laws, regulations, and policy. Review of invoices, purchase orders, and/or contracts to make taxability determinations on a high volume of transactions and wide variety of issues. Assist with responding to taxability or procedural questions from various internal departments. Maintain the indirect tax calendar including renditions, notice of valuations, and tax payments.  Assist with sales & use tax audits in areas such as data preparation, reconciliations, sampling, research, documentation requests, and auditor negotiations.  Preparation of sales & use tax registrations for new jurisdictions. Correspondence with tax jurisdictions on notices and other issues. Assist in implementing transaction tax process improvements.  Responsible for various administrative processes and tasks.  Other special projects, as needed.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 

Knowledge:

Working knowledge of multi-state sales & use tax compliance, audits, laws, and regulations is required. Ad valorem tax experience is preferred. Experience with Oracle and Sabrix or similar systems is a plus. 

Skills:

Experience with an on-line state tax research system is required, preferably Thomson Reuters Checkpoint. Strong data management skills; ability to audit, format, model and analyze large data sets. Strong knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Ability to directly identify and tackle critical issues; effectively utilize knowledge of sound business and technical operations practices; adeptly work under pressure. Excellent interpersonal skills. Driven to deliver quality results on time, with a high degree of integrity and in a highly ethical and professional manner. Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to see the broad implications of events, as well as understand the details.  Able to manage multiple activities and programs timely and with a high degree of accuracy.  Detail oriented and effective time management and organizational skills. Proven ability to identify issues and make recommendations to improve process/procedure to correct the root cause.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

Education, Training and Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required. CPA license or CMI designation is preferred.

Experience: 1-3 years of relevant sales & use tax experience is required. Ad valorem tax experience is preferred.

WORK CONDITIONS 

Job is performed in a typical office environment, but is subject to time pressures and constraints. Tasks are often dependent on input from others.  Occasionally, work may be performed from home after normal work hours or on weekends.  Subject to drug and alcohol testing, per applicable federal regulations or as required by Cheniere.
