Posting Summary Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, part of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking additional BC/BE pediatric surgeons to join the Division of Pediatric Surgery to meet the growing clinical demands of Rutgers Health and RWJBarnabas Health. We seek surgeons at assistant/associate professor levels who are passionate about patient care, surgical education, and research.
This is a full-time employed position within Rutgers Health, the most comprehensive academic health care provider organization in New Jersey, combining an unprecedented scope of clinical care, research, and education. It has a single focus: helping people and populations get well and stay well. Rutgers is a leading national research university and New Jersey’s preeminent comprehensive public institution of higher education. Robert Wood Johnson Medical School is located in central New Jersey with easy access to the Jersey shore, New York and Philadelphia. It is the principal academic partner for RWJBarnabas Health.
RWJBarnabas Health covers a population of 5 million people with more than 25,000 live births per year. A full complement of pediatric surgical service is already in place, along with a full spectrum of medical pediatric specialties. This is a university-based practice that supports three children’s hospitals, including The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (BMSCH), Monmouth Medical Center, and St. Barnabas Medical Center. There are robust pediatric ED, NICU, and PICU at all sites, as well as a dedicated pediatric OR at BMSCH. There is an established culture of clinical excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, quality, and safety.
Job Description: Position – Assistant Professor of Surgery Division of Pediatric Surgery• Provide evidence-based medicine to patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.• Collaborate with institutional leadership, physician partners, and nursing colleagues to ensure high-quality care for surgical patients in all settings including the outpatient offices, Trauma, ICUs, ED, and inpatient units.• Participate in research activities within the Division, Department, and/or Medical School to further the knowledge in the chosen area of study. Obtain funding for research activity as available.• Provide unrestricted call coverage at all facilities as determined by Divisional leadership of Rutgers Health Group at the discretion of the Chief of Pediatric Surgery.• Actively participate in medical student, resident, and fellow education through didactic lectures, research activities, evaluation of programs, interviews, and/or clinical supervision.• Document and bill for provider activities accurately, appropriately, and in a timely manner according to hospital and medical school policies.• Provide active participation in the teaching programs, attend conferences, grand
rounds and hospital committees as requested• Promote the program throughout the region and at national conferences• Participate in process/quality improvement in care delivery of surgical patients and participate in quality initiatives• Comply with all medical school and hospital medical staff bylaws, clinical practice guidelines, and policies. As part of the mission of the medical school, you will have responsibilities for research as well as education of residents and students and such duties as assigned by the Chair, Dr. Leonard Lee and Dr. Steven Stylianos, Chief of Pediatric Surgery, will serve as mentors.
