The Touro University Graduate School of Social Work (GSSW) is seeking candidates for a full-time (10-month appointment) Assistant Professor in Social Work. We welcome applications from candidates who seek to build an academic career in an urban, diverse New York City environment with a new, exciting online program. Ideal candidates will be change agents with a defined area of research and scholarship, background in social work practice, comfort teaching diverse groups of students, and experience in distance education. The candidate will report primarily to the Dean of the GSSW, and contribute to teaching, scholarship/research, and service to the department and the community. Faculty carry a 21-credit workload per academic year and are expected to teach, advise students, and engage in scholarship.

 

 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Teaching Graduate Social Work courses across curriculum sequences (Practice and Research), in various modalities (in-person, virtual, asynchronous).Contribute expertise in one or more various contemporary topics, such as immigration and displacement, substance use/harm reduction, child and adolescent mental health and school social work, mental health and wellness, and diverse populations in the urban setting.Participate in MSW program activities as needed (orientation, community days, committee meetings, and curriculum development)Service to the Department, University, and Community including standing committees, ad-hoc committees, and professional organizations.Attend New Student Orientation, Community Day, Academic Recognition Program, Commencement.Research/Scholarship, including publication, social work academic conferences, and funded research.Carry a yearly academic advisement caseload and conduct advisement in the fall and spring semesters.Participate in program events, including orientation and graduation.Participate in Social Work professional organizations, including Council on Social Work Education re-accreditation.Build, strengthen, and support community relations.Contribute to the distance education program. Qualifications

Education/ Experience

Applicants must have a Master of Social Work degree and a doctorate in a related field of study; a Ph.D. in Social Work or a DSW degree is preferred.At least 2 years of teaching experience in Social Work or related field preferred.

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities

Experience with Canvas and electronic learning management systems.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

Travel

As needed for academic conferences, to other Touro University New York campuses as necessary.

Physical Demands

Able to lift up to 5 lbs.

This education prepares graduates for leadership roles in clinical social work practice with vulnerable populations in the contemporary service delivery environment.
