Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Assistant Supervisor, Laboratory - Full Time Days 9AM-5PM; rotating weekends - Laboratory.

In this role, the successful candidate Assists Section Supervisor in the daily management of the departments. In doing so, establishes work priorities, organizes and assigns work to technologists in the section. The Assistant Supervisor is a technical expert in one or more areas of the Laboratory, and functions as a resource or information specialist for other personnel in the section.

Job Responsibilities:

Management Skills

Schedules personnel in conjunction with the supervisor according to the bargaining unit contract so the department is adequately staffed and benefit time is granted whenever possible. Assists in formulating and implementing organizational goals. Makes optimum use of department resources. Orders quantities that maximize dating, limit calibrations and minimize waste.  Inventory is kept at adequate levels to maintain services. All orders are tracked from time of order to receipt. Problems are investigated and resolved before inventory is affected. Maintains composure in high stress situations. Remains calm and delegates responsibilities to staff. Complies with all safety recommendations and requirements. Shows strong self-management and organizational skills. Projects are done on schedule and records are accurate and neat. Shows flexibility and creativity in response to changing conditions. Assists supervisor in reviewing all instrument tapes and/or test results to assure that laboratory protocol is being followed.  Problems or issues are identified and corrected.  Staff is inserviced on any breach of protocol. Functions as the weekend laboratory supervisor on a rotating basis. Finds coverage for sick calls, responds to technical questions, functions as an intermediary between the laboratory and other departments. Assists in development and implementation of PI projects.

Technical Skills

Applies an advanced level of knowledge and experience in all areas of their department. Is competent in all the technical duties of a senior technologist. Assists in the monitoring of all documentation to assure that all policies and procedures are consistently followed. Displays an ability to learn rapidly and adapt quickly to changing situations. Able to perform advanced troubleshooting procedures.  Works directly with manufacturers technical assistance center or engineer to resolve instrument problems.

Quality Assurance

Assists in the review of all quality control data and patient data to verify accuracy of results and maintains documentation of remedial action. Takes appropriate action when QC fails. Strives to grow professionally by completing all continuing education requirements and by independent study. Makes recommendations to improve processes and services. Is able to step in and work in the department as a working technologist or phlebotomist.

Communication

Gives clear direction and effectively demonstrate routine and complex procedures. Effectively utilizes the computer to process specimens, report results and access information. Conveys respect for the profession. Promotes cooperative behavior and team efforts. Listens attentively and respects opinions of others. Demonstrates proper telephone techniques and etiquette. Computer downtime procedures are followed when the computer is not operational Communicates ideas and suggestions with a positive intent.

Analytical Skills

Demonstrates the ability to analyze problems to determine the cause and find solutions Follows a logical process to problem resolution Uses all available resources to solve problems including manuals and manufacturers technical services Displays knowledge of mathematical and statistical calculations to evaluate Quality Control and calculate patient result

Other Functions and Performance Expectations

Maintains a consistent pattern of attendance Adheres to assigned area on time for schedules shift Adheres to hospital/department dress code.  Arrives to work appropriately dressed, well groomed and neat. Completes all hospital requirements at designated times (i.e. annual assessment, educational, MedNetTra) Conforms to policies regarding confidentiality of information Follows call-in procedure when sick, late or absent.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a BS in Medical Technology or related discipline and 5 years clinical laboratory experience.
NYS Education Department Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or Eligible
Professional accreditation preferred.
Analytical skills necessary to analyze data and perform mathematical calculations.
Possess a strong knowledge of computer fundamentals and experience with laboratory information systems.
Ability to identify, analyzes and solve problems.
Technical skills necessary to operate, maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation and perform routine and complex testing.
Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness and effectiveness and quality of work reflect high professional standards.
Excels in training, leading and motivating people.
Demonstrates strong organizational skills.
Works effectively in high-pressure situations..

The salary range for the role is $64,560.81 - $109,560.81 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
