The ideal candidates should have a strong understanding of the fundamentals of track and field, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to helping athletes reach their full potential. The Assistant Track Coach is a part-time, seasonal position that assists the Head Coach organizing and coaching the City of Baytown Youth Summer Track Program; this position assists with conducting practices, motivating and instructing the athletes in the program. Duties + Assist in planning, developing and implementing the track program in accordance with TAAF (Texas Amateur Athletic Federation) and Hershey's league policies and procedures. + Assist in training, instructing and supervising athletes in a variety of track skills and techniques; teaches rules, conduct and safety; provides a variety of guidance, instruction and experience to enhance athlete's personal, physical and social growth and development. + Assist in planning and conducting regularly scheduled practice sessions. + Assist in coaching and supervising athletes during track meets. Minimum Qualifications REQUIRED: + High School Diploma or equivalent (GED). + Valid State of Texas Driver's License with acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days). + First Aid and CPR certified. + Track & Field Experience PREFERRED: + Two years directly related experience Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Motivational, effective communication, behavior management skills with the ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public. Track coaching techniques; be familiar with track rules and regulations. Attendance is an essential function of this position. The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work overtime. This position provides services or performs duties for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of your job. In the event of an evacuation, the incumbent in this position may be required to remain to perform needed services. Overall Position Strength Demands Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
