The Role: Driving Profitable Results

As an Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Production Underwriting, you'll be based in California and play a pivotal role in our success. Here's what the role entails:

Team Leadership: You'll lead our production underwriting team, ensuring they deliver exceptional results.Profitability Focus: Your oversight of underwriting activities will drive profitability.Strong Relationships: Building and maintaining strong broker relationships will be a key aspect of your role.Reporting Structure: You'll report directly to our Senior Vice President of Underwriting Operations.Goals: Your goal? Achieving high renewal retention and driving new business profitably.

Key ResponsibilitiesThe key responsibilities of the position are as follows:Accountable for the risk selection/rejection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability decisions made by the production underwriting team Empowers employees to use independent judgment and initiative to support business goalsEnsures business is priced in accordance with company guidelinesAssesses risk quality and compliance with company guidelines and initiates appropriate loss prevention activitiesEnsures that effective business relations with internal and external customers/coworkers are developed and maintained in order to attract and retain profitable businessEnsures adequate numbers of visits are conducted with agents, brokers, and producers to retain existing accounts, build and maintain business relationships, and develop new opportunitiesEnsures the provision of excellent customer serviceResponsible for the performance and coaching of staff and decisions regarding talent selection, development and performance managementDrives underwriting excellence through a high level of engagement

Candidate Experience and CharacteristicsThe ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies and characteristics:Industry ExperienceGenerally, 10+ years of workers’ compensation underwriting experience including a minimum of 5 years of California-specific experienceTechnically proficient in the nuances of workers’ compensation insuranceProven career track record of successLeadership SkillsExperience managing employees (7+ years preferred) to achieve successful business outcomesAbility to attract and develop underwriting talentWillingness to delegate responsibility and authorityAbility to manage and develop talentPersonal AttributesHighest integrityExcellent communication skillsDemonstrated high-level of initiative and self-disciplineResults-driven; holds oneself and others accountableBuilds relationships and trust, balancing the needs of team members with business resultsBuilds high enthusiasm and motivationDevelops team members; provides honest, timely feedback, coaching, and career development opportunitiesEducationBachelor’s degree in Business, Liberal Arts, or related discipline preferred

Compensation and Benefits

Republic offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including:

Base salary range:  $190,000 - $230,000Eligibility to participate in discretionary bonus planBenefits:  Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, Wellness, Paid Time Off, Retirement & Savings Plan, Discounted Stock Purchase Plan
