Associate Controls Engineer

McKesson is seeking an Associate Controls Engineer candidate for our Longmont, CO facility with an opportunity to work from home. This role is responsible for programing, supporting, and troubleshooting automated machines and will be tasked to lead some controls exercises with Covermymeds and within the Controls Department. Additionally, be a key member of the team for field implementation and support.

A key candidate will provide technical expertise and develops solutions to automation technical problems. Has wide understanding of controls-related products, solutions, and engineering concepts. Supports development specifications, reads and reviews device layout drawings and control schematics, and uses PLC controls logic to provide solutions to new projects or customer issues.

Critical Skills and/or Experience

Knowledge of mechanical and electrical principles and industrial automation

Ability to read and understand system layouts, schematics, and control devices

Ability to troubleshoot and adjust PLC programs

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail and deadlines

Troubleshoot packaging machines and resolve a high percentage of mechanical, electrical, and programming issues unassisted.

Team-oriented and collaborative

Creative-thinking and problem-solving skills

Adept at electrical wiring and troubleshooting

Demonstrate strong leadership ability

Self-motivated and a willingness to learn

Experience interfacing with both internal team members and external customers as part of a solution-based service process.

Additional Knowledge and skills

Familiarity with Beckhoff TwinCat 3 Programming software, Allen-Bradley, Siemens or equivalent IEC 61131-3 standard controls programing software

Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products

Robotic System experience

Vision System experience

Visual studio experience

Atlassian - Jira experience

Experience with Solidworks or AutoCAD Electrical

Ability to work non-traditional hours

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with the checkout of diverse control scheme designs for state-of-the-art automated pharmaceutical equipment

Collaborate with controls engineer verifying PLC programs, program updates communicated through our internal change request system. Document and provide change request with electrical schematics that require further review and red-lining.

Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electromechanical, and/or electronic equipment. Provides expertise for conveyor systems, automated and semi-automated material handling systems, static and dynamic storage systems, and robotic modules

Participate in continuous improvement activities by identifying and appropriately escalating process and product quality gaps, providing solutions when possible.

Ability to deliver results in an uncertain environment, ability to multitask and prioritize.

Must possess great documentation skills with the ability to produce extremely accurate, complete and timely customer technical reports that can be submitted to customers with confidence.

Help develop wiring and programming standards for the future of the company

Assist team of engineers through high level projects, research development and support

Help deploy programming for various new machines and works closely with software developers to troubleshoot any interface issues

Lead on-site implementation for controls systems on customers sites

Tracking of workload via Jira

Provide engineering support and service leadership to the organizations’ efforts to resolve complex customer technical issues controls, software or hardware issues 

Work on system mechanical and software start-up

Archive all internal machine functional specifications and hardware architectures

Actively participate in cross functional teams that may include Software Engineering, Product Management and Hardware Engineering on feature design and requirements 

Participate in customer site visits to intervene with resolving problems of high severity

In-depth knowledge of the diagnosis, repair & debugging of software & hardware automation

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent engineering degree OR Combination of training and experience providing required knowledge, skills and abilities, such as Associate’s degree in electronics, electrical, or controls engineering or a related field with experience commissioning controls-related systems at customer facilities

Ability to travel up to 50% if required

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$30.62 - $51.04
