Associate Corporate Counsel

Job Summary

The Associate Corporate Counsel is responsible for providing legal support and advice to the Company on a variety of litigation and employment law matters in various jurisdictions.  This position must have a solid business orientation and focus on practical problem solving, while upholding the Company’s strong ethics, culture, and principles of integrity across the organization. 

Duties & Responsibilities

Take a hands-on approach for all types of pre-litigation and litigation matters in various practice areas and jurisdictions where Masimo operates Proactively search for and find facts to support litigation position, including reviewing documents, investigating allegations, and interviewing witnesses  Assist with drafting responses to subpoenas, discovery requests, demand letters, agency charges, and opposition briefs Manage outside counsel, including developing litigation strategy and reviewing work product Advise Human Resources on a variety of employment law matters, including employee discipline, wage and hour issues, reasonable accommodations, and leaves of absence  Provide responsive and effective legal support and guidance to all of Masimo’s business units as needed Support global subsidiaries, business initiatives, and expansion as necessary  Perform special projects as requested

Minimum & Preferred Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Qualifications

Admission and member in good standing of California Bar or qualified to practice as in-house counsel in California Three to five years of experience at a law firm (preferably large law firm) or a combination of law firm and in-house experience Excellent research and writing skills Excellent project management skills Practical, logical, and creative problem solver able to work cross-functionally Ability to communicate clearly and effectively Strong work ethic and positive attitude Organized and keen attention to detail Results oriented, self-motivated, and self-directed Ability to be flexible and to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure and rapidly changing environment 

Preferred Qualifications

Experience practicing within a highly regulated industry such as medical device, biotechnology, or pharmaceuticals Experience with legal issues involving wage and hour law, Title VII, FEHA, FMLA, CFRA, FLSA, the California Labor Code, ADEA, and ADA

Education

Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school with a strong academic record is required.

Compensation

The anticipated range for this position is $149,000 to $223,000.  Actual placement within the range is dependent on multiple factors, including but not limited to skills, education, and experience.

Physical requirements/Work Environment 

This position primarily works in an office environment.  It requires frequent sitting, standing and walking.  Daily use of a computer and other computing and digital devices is required.  May stand for extended periods when facilitating meetings or walking in the facilities.  Some travel is necessary.
