The Autonomic Control of Circulation Laboratory in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education (KHE) is a research lab focused on broadening our understanding of how disease can affect cardiovascular changes during exercise for those with diabetes.

The lab is seeking an Associate Project Manager (APM) for a 12-month, full-time position. This position is grant-funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH) with the opportunity to renew based on performance reviews and availability of grant funding. The ideal candidate should plan on spending 3+ years in this position.

The APM will work directly with the Lab Director, assisting with the management of lab activities. They will learn how to manage NIH-funded research projects in an academic setting.

The ideal APM is highly organized, excited about breakthroughs in the health sciences, and a strong team player.

The APM does not need to have a background in science, but this position offers the opportunity to make an impact in the field of physiology, specifically relating to cardiovascular research.

Please note: Training and onboarding will be provided for all tasks listed.

Purpose

The Associate Project Manager’s main responsibility will be to help the Lab Director with organization and efficiency in the lab.

The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate the management, development, direction, and evaluation of assigned projects and plans pertaining to NIH-funded research projects on the effects of diabetes on the autonomic control of circulation. 

The APM will coordinate projects with emphasis on time schedule control, coordinate project development and implementation, and communicate effectively with personnel.

They will utilize accepted project management methodologies, communication, and consultation with project team members and collaborators.

They will contribute to the development of project plans including project life cycle, budgets, resource requirements, change management processes, risk management, key milestones, communication mechanisms, test plans, and deliverables.

The APM will stay current on the policies and procedures to ensure compliance of all applicable laws, University policies, rules, and regulations are communicated to and followed by the project team members.

They will contribute to project implementation, including emergent issues, with a focus on time management to ensure all tasks are completed within established deadlines and budgets.

The APM will also perform related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Manage personnel tasks - Check in with lab personnel on their progress with experiments and help solve problems when needed.Interface with Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS)  - Update procedures and policies, add amendments, conduct lab inspections, ensure personnel training and surgical logs are up to date, and update EHS lab portal online (UT Herd).Update and maintain lab website  – Provide up-to-date information to the College of Education’s webmaster for the lab’s website on an as-needed basis.Create and maintain lab schedule for experiments and tasks  – Create weekly schedule for researchers to perform experiments and organize logistics of transporting animals between facilities on campus.Maintain lab inventory and order supplies  – Keep track of lab supplies and order new supplies to ensure researchers are always equipped for their experiments. Pick up supply deliveries from the KHE admin office.Maintain online data organization website (REDCap)  – Input data entry from experiments into spreadsheets for research analysis.Prepare for and participate in weekly lab meetings  – Record meeting minutes, help draft meeting agenda, and discuss important topics and tasks with the Lab Director prior to and after the meeting.Other related duties as assigned  – Occasionally, the APM will be asked to perform tasks or projects not listed here.

Salary Range

$45,000 - $55,000 (dependent on experience)

Working Conditions

The ACC is an animal lab that uses rodents. However, the Associate Project Manager will not be expected to perform experiments.Most tasks will be performed in either a private or shared office space.Work will be performed within a research laboratory where studies are being conducted.Some visits to the animal facility (ARC) on campus will be required.A computer with all necessary software provided.

Work Shift

The typical work week will be 8am-5pm M-F but can be somewhat flexible based on Lab Director approval. This is an on-site position.
