Automation Engineer
The Automation Engineer is responsible for the concept, design, programming and testing of automated equipment and processes that will improve production. The design work will include all detailed specifications & documentation of the project. The Automation Engineer will support projects that lead to potential investments of millions of dollars in multiple facilities. There will be frequent interaction with all levels of plant personnel and management as well as manufacturing and automation engineers in multiple locations. In addition, there will be interaction with suppliers of equipment and automation controls for multiple engineering projects. Responsibilities include:
System Monitoring and Maintenance:
o Monitor the performance of automation systems and machinery.
o Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure optimal operation.
Programming and Configuration:
o Develop and modify PLC programs, particularly with platforms like Siemens.
o Configure automation systems to meet operational requirements.
Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
o Identify and resolve technical issues with automation equipment.
o Analyze system errors and implement corrective actions.
Process Improvement:
o Collaborate with other departments to identify opportunities for process improvements.
o Implement changes to enhance efficiency, productivity, and safety.
Data Analysis:
o Collect and analyze data from automation systems to monitor performance.
o Use data to identify trends and make recommendations for improvements.
Documentation and Reporting:
o Maintain detailed records of system configurations, changes, and maintenance activities.
o Prepare reports on system performance and project progress.
Testing and Validation:
o Conduct tests to validate new automation solutions and system enhancements.
o Ensure all changes meet operational requirements and standards.
Training and Support:
o Provide training and support to operators and other staff on automation systems.
o Assist with the development of training materials and standard operating procedures.
Project Management:
o Manage automation projects from conception to implementation.
o Coordinate with vendors and contractors to ensure timely completion of projects.
Compliance and Safety:
o Ensure all automation systems comply with industry standards and regulations.
Implement safety protocols to protect personnel and equipment.
