Case Up Supervisor

Summary 

The Case-Up Supervisor oversees the operation of the Case-up department while ensuring the staff follows GMP and safety policies to produce a high-quality, frozen salmon product. The incumbent works closely with the Production Manager and Freezer and Shipping Department to ensure a smooth, consistent, quick-paced packaging of 50lb blocks of frozen salmon. 

Essential Functions/Qualifications  

The responsibilities of the position include the following:  

Timely and regular attendance.  Supervision of a crew ranging from 60-80 employees.  Regular and effective communication with all departments to maintain and efficient flow of production.  Monitor attendance schedule of staff using attendance sheets provided by Production Manager.  Trains employee of proper working ergonomics in addition to their assigned tasks and specific techniques. Provides guidance and trains staff for each job station.  Sets an example for the department staff in work ethic, safety protocol and attitude.  Monitor lot tracking, freezer, bagging/boxes machines, bagging/boxes labels and other case-up process.  Enforces sanitation practices with Quality Assurance department resulting in the production of a safe product.  Take corrective action to address mechanic issues or safety hazards with Production Manager and Chief Engineer.  Monitor and evaluate lead’s performance.  Other duties as assigned.

Employee must possess a general knowledge of salmon and fish processing fresh to finished product. The incumbent takes preventative measures to avoid production setbacks and has the capability to delegate responsibility and supervise staff. The Case Up Supervisor must have a general understanding and respect of common quality and sanitation practices. The employee works diligently to enforce sanitation practices with Quality Assurance department resulting in the production of a safe product. Builds confidence in management, coworkers, and subordinates by ensuring expectations and commitments are met. Establishes and maintains effective and positive relationship with internal and external customers. Acts with the customers in mind and values the importance of providing a high-quality product. Reads, speaks, writes, and understands English for effective communication. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the organization. Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.  

The Case-Up Supervisor must familiarize oneself with all safety procedures and evacuations relative to their designated facility. The employee can respond quickly and calmly in the event of an emergency. In addition, the Case-Up Supervisor is responsible for identifying and reporting all safety or mechanical concerns related to the Case-Up department to the Chief Engineer through means designated by the Production Manager. Familiar with basic OSHA regulations and implements safe work practice within their department.

The Case-Up Supervisor position requires driven machinery certifications such as a forklift, which in turn requires a valid driver’s license. 

Interpersonal 

Education and Experience  

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred but not required. 2 years’ experience in processing and packing frozen salmon for European/Domestic markets, familiarity with food production packaging, as well as bi-lingual in Spanish is a plus. Relevant workplace experience may be a substitute for above requirements.  

Work Environment and Schedule  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  

Physical Demands  
Employee must be 18 years or older and be authorized to legally work in the United States. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.   

Mental Activities  

The employee needs the ability to multitask in a high demand environment. Focus and concentration on customer and employee relations, safety, as well as sanitation are critical. The employee needs to regularly demonstrate attention to detail when supervising his or her staff. Ability to adapt to a variety of scenarios which may arise throughout the processing season is essential.  

The employee must also have a rudimentary understanding of math: addition, subtraction, and basic multiplication. In addition, the incumbent must possess a keen sense of the importance of punctuality for a variety of designated tasks. The employee is required to use creativity, problem solving, independent judgment and discretion.
