Job Overview:

Health & Wellness is looking for a Certified Medical Assistant to perform routine clinical and clerical tasks under the direction of a physician or other health practitioner. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs, medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, processing prescription refills, and assisting with minor procedures as directed by a physician or health practitioner. The CMA acts as a practice ambassador, contributing to overall patient experience, safety, and privacy.

Qualifications:

Required:

High School Diploma or GED BLS Certification approved by AHAMedical Assistant Certification: NHA, NCCT, AMT, AAMA, NCMA, AMCA, AECA, or NAHPAt least 6 months of relevant experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experienceAttention to accuracy and detailProficient knowledge of medical terminologyAbility to multitask, prioritize and work under pressureStrong written and oral communication skills essentialAbility to work independently and in a team environmentAbility to take vital signs and perform a patient assessmentAdministration of medications as directed by physician or health practitionerDemonstrates a clear understanding of the importance of patient satisfaction and safety

Preferred:

Phlebotomy and EKGKnowledge of electronic medical record (EMR) systems

Certifications and Licenses Required:

BLS Certification approved by AHAMedical Assistant Certification: NHA, NCCT, AMT, AAMA, NCMA, AMCA, AECA, or NAHP

Scheduling Requirements:

Shift working, 8:30am - 5:00pm Monday - FridayPer Diem Travel required to Belleville, Livingston, and Newark

Essential Functions:

Assists with both front office and back office dutiesGreets patients, update demographics, verifies insurance, and collects payments as necessaryAnswers phones and schedules patient appointmentsAssists physicians with patient treatment and minor surgeriesCommunicate with insurance carriers to obtain authorizations for procedures and pharmaceuticalsHandles patient requests for medical information, copies of medical records, refills, test results, etc, as instructed by the physician with signature, obtains patient release forms in accordance with patient confidentiality and medical record release policiesSchedule testing in or out of officeCall in patients' prescriptions to pharmaciesMaintain inventory of medical and pharmaceutical supplies, order and stock, as neededMaintain drug cabinetMaintains patient files, records and other informationNotify patient of change in medications diet and reminders regarding appointmentsMonitor patients need for weekly and or monthly testsNotify physician of any situation they determine emergentPerforms routine medical testing, i,e, blood testing, ekgs, pulmonary function tests, spirometry tests, hearing, vision including color blindness test, urinalysis, rapid strep tests and drug screening, injections and vaccinationsPrepare lab requests forms and tests to be forwarded to labPost lab results and file in patients filesPrepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instrumentsPrepares patients for examination and treatmentTakes patients' brief history and vital signsResponsible for performing duties independently following established and standardized procedures and methods, referring questionable situations to the immediate supervisor or othersTelephone patient follow-up on their condition after office visit as per the physicians instructionsCall patients or other physicians with results of exams and testsOther duties as assigned
