Your Opportunity

This assignment will be full time in Midland, TX.  The role of Control Systems/Instrumentation Engineer is to work on smaller projects, and/or as a team member of larger projects, under the guidance of a Senior Electrical or Control Systems Engineer. The Engineer should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer certain control systems and electrical equipment or products for a project. A Control Systems/Instrumentation Engineer will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, design, and field work.

 

Your Key Responsibilities Participates in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and basic cost estimating. Assists PMs and/or Senior Engineers with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule. May lead the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents. Performs and oversees the performance of calculations using company standard software, and proprietary manufacturer software. Works on multiple projects. Experienced in developing and preparing some or all of the following: Process Flow Diagrams, assist Process/Mechanical Engineers Piping and Instrument Diagrams, assist Process/Mechanical Engineers Support field process evaluations  Control Narratives  Cause & Effect Charts  SAFE Charts  Specification and design of SIS systems Instrumentation studies – i.e. Choice of level, flow and analytical elements/transmitters Instrument Specifications and Data Sheets (Process sensors, transmitters, valves, actuators, positioners, discrete sensors, analytical instruments) Ability to calculate sizing for Control valves, Pressure Safety valves, Relief valves and flow meters is a plus Select proper materials for valves and instruments Automation/Control System Architecture drawings Specifying Programmable Logic Controllers and/or Distributed Computer Control Systems hardware Support client Hazard and Operability Analysis and Process Hazard Analysis evaluations Support client purchasing cycle with specification and bid document development  Instrument List / PLC I/O List Designing or modifying control systems related communications (radio, cell, fiber, etc.) Assist design personnel with:  Instrument Location plans  PLC Panel layouts  I/O Wiring Diagrams Wiring Schematics (VFD’s, instruments, signal conditioners, MCR/ESD, etc.) Quality Assurance Reviews Interface with electrical engineers to develop:  One-line diagrams  Electrical area classification drawings  Instrumentation and controls conduit and cable schedules Your Capabilities and Credentials Knowledge and application of National Electrical Code (NEC), International Society of Automation (ISA) and other applicable industry codes and standards as they apply to control system specification and design. General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications. Strong knowledge of control systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards. Working knowledge of electrical systems and equipment as they relate to and support control system design and implementation. Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule. Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought. Thorough understanding of control systems engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others. Advanced oral and written communication skills. Presentation skills are a plus. Requires proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Must have good driving record and valid Driver's License. Prior to employment with Stantec, this position will require the successful passing of a drug screen.

 

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering. Minimum of 5-10 years of experience.

 

Field and office environment, working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
