SoarTech is growing, and we are looking for a Controller to help lead the transition of this exciting technology into everyday operations. Job Description The Controller is responsible for the performance of the finance and accounting operations of the company; including, financial reporting, maintenance of accounting records, mitigating risk through controls, maintaining GAAP compliance and oversees accounting department functions. Makes recommendations and provides analytical expertise to c-suite teammates and broader organizational teams and stakeholders. This individual will also embrace and represent the SoarTech Core Values (Innovative, Honest, Customer Focused, Respectful, Integrity, and People) in all aspects of their duties and responsibilities. Duties and Responsibilities + Direct/oversee all accounting functions and allocate the financial resources of the company to achieve or exceed business and strategic plan objectives. May support program financial functions such as budgeting, auditing, forecasting, and analysis for government and commercial contracts for program/project execution and operations. + Responsible for all issues related to cash, management, AP/AR, billing, invoices, project setup, vendor and subcontractor expenses, timekeeping, payroll, journal entries, bank, and account reconciliations. This position must be able to document, assess, and optimize (as required) procedures to enable an environment of constant improvement. + Create and maintain a strong control environment. + Develop and implement plans, policies, and accounting practices and procedures to ensure the company is in compliance with GAAP, and other applicable state and federal financial and accounting regulations. Identify areas (policies, practices, procedures, etc.) for improvement and make actionable recommendations. + Lead and direct the company’s activities to comply with FAR, DCAA, DCMA, and applicable CAS regulations and requirements. + Manage the company’s 401k plan and its annual audit. + Address all requests (e.g., data calls, audits, negotiations) from government oversight agencies (e.g., DCMA, DCAA) as well as external auditors, subcontractors, vendors, and relevant customer representatives. + Responsible for the company’s annual Incurred Cost Submission (ICS) to the DCAA. + Responsible for corporate tax returns through providing data to external audit firm. + Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, and enforcing adherence to requirements. + Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential. + Provide timely and accurate data for internal and external reporting. + Establish monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure underlying data is accurate and current for all required/desired. + Develop and manage company’s indirect rate structure. Develop a compliant indirect rate structure to enable the company to achieve its near-term and long-term strategic objectives. + Support cross-function collaborations of ongoing efforts from other departments (e.g., contracts and procurement, operations, technical team, executive management, and Corporate Platform.) + May support monthly and quarterly reporting activities in coordination with the Program management Office to ensure proper cost and revenue recognition, and profitability within programs and operations. + Manage teams and work groups with respect, effective communication, and mutual accountability. + Other duties as assigned. Required Skills and Experience + BS or equivalent degree in accounting, finance, or a related field or discipline. + At least (10) ten years of progressive, broad-based accounting experience in a combination of public accounting, corporate accounting, financial systems, and processes. + At least (5) years’ experience in a controller and/or accounting management role. + Knowledge of financial regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles commensurate with experience levels noted above. + Experience with Deltek’s Costpoint system. + Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills to support teams and to accomplish common goals. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills. + Proven experience in mentorship and team development. + Demonstrated experience working with geographically distributed team. + Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance. Preferred skills + (10) Ten years of experience in the military, DoD space, and/or in government research environments. + An advanced degree and/or CPA. + Knowledge of the FAR, DFARS, & CAS. + Experience working with defense contractors in a professional services environment. + Experience interfacing with senior management (C-level and BoD). + Prior experience with defense research organizations. + An active Department of Defense (DOD) Security Clearance. Physical Requirements + Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. + Ability to travel up to 25% of the time to support business development related activities. + Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
