Responsibilities Investigates, develops and implements activities to reduce machine downtime while increasing process efficiency. Reviews, assesses and designs safety devices and controls as needed.Research, design, and develop controls systems for industrial use utilizing knowledge in engineering and consultation with equipment manufacturers. Plan department activities based on production schedules to make optimum use of manpower and facilities.Make recommendations for development action; analyze, modify and improve programmable logic controllers (PLC) and human-machine interfaces (HMI).Provide design and technical support of PLC based hardware, and control systems in a production environment (primarily Allen Bradley with some Siemens and Omron).Provide on-going maintenance support and resolution of control system problems, including taking ownership of such problems to completion.Work with Maintenance personnel to assist in troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment and control systems problems. Manage Capital projects from conception to installation as directed by supervisor while following OSHA, EPA, SQF, and local code regulations. Interface with outside Machine / Control Vendors for the purpose of defining, designing, implementing, troubleshooting and redefining processes.Communicates effectively with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Maintenance Departments at the local and corporate level. Develops electrical and mechanical documentation, design modifications and programs for equipment. Develops, reviews and implements work instructions as needed. Ensures compliance with the plant policies and procedures including requirements. Good at project and time management. Good troubleshooting abilities. General understanding of economics, ergonomics and thermodynamics. General understanding of mechanics-statics and dynamics. Hydraulics, pneumatics and material science General understanding of Analog and digital controls and wiring. Perform Level 2 CEW demonstration sign off for technicians.Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned. Observe all Safety precautions, Food Safety requirements and Plant Rules to prevent injury to self or others and to prevent loss of material or damage to equipment.Follow and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).Maintain good housekeeping and 5S. Qualifications Capable of physical mobility including sitting, bending, twisting, standing, and lifting. Capable of maintaining an attendance record within company guidelines and working required overtime. Read, write and speak English. Past experience / proven ability within the specified disciplines. Negative drug screen test results. Strong organizational and leadership skills.
