This position is expected to start in Summer 2024.

The College of Arts & Media is seeking a dynamic and creative student who is passionate about writing, networking, and the journalistic process. This intern provides support for the CAM Marketing Team by cultivating relationships throughout the college and serving as a storyteller for students, faculty, staff, and alumni of the CAM community by writing features to be published on various platforms. They will also assist in the management and upkeep of the University Calendar by updating and communicating information surrounding CAM events and performances. The CAM community includes the Departments of Art, Dance, Mass Communication, Theatre & Musical Theatre, and the School of Music. 
The CAM Marketing & Communications Team provides student interns with the opportunity to work in a professional setting and gain valuable real-world skills and training that will benefit their future careers. This intern will report to the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Operations (head of the CAM Marketing & Communications Team) and the CAM Communications Manager.

Duties and ExpectationsThis position is a representative of the college and university and requires serious dedication to the internship. Will be expected to work occasional nights and weekends. The copywriting intern is expected to do the following: Generate copy for various platforms and media outlets. Make updates to the University Calendar as needed. Communicate with Faculty & Staff regarding information on CAM events and performances. Follow up on leads received from departments and team admins. Formulate questions and conduct research based on each subject. Follow proper etiquette when crafting an email or making a phone call. Conduct interviews via email, Zoom, phone, and/or in person. Follow general copywriting and proofreading protocols. Have a strong attention to detail, stay organized, and meet deadlines. Cultivate relationships and show genuine interest while interacting with interviewees. May assist social media intern as needed. Other projects as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications Proficient in communication and interviewing others. General knowledge of APA format and copywriting structures for various platforms. Capable of handling a fast-paced marketing environment. Creative and extroverted personality with a passion for arts and media.

Portfolio should include at least 3 writing samples. These samples can be published or unpublished and can encompass a variety of elements (creativity, writing style, research organization, quote usage, branding, promotions, etc.) that showcase your skillset. Submit a copy of your class schedule.

Other Requirements for the Position Applicants must have and maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. The successful internship candidate may be eligible for a scholarship within CAM. Interested applicants must file a completed Scholarships4Kats to be considered for a scholarship. Scholarships are not guaranteed and are contingent upon available funding.

All CAM interns are expected to do the following: Learn and use web applications for project management and cloud storage such as Dropbox and Microsoft Teams. Communicate openly, effectively, and frequently with team admins. Work collaboratively with other members of the team. Communicate professionally and respectfully with students, faculty, and staff. Maintain the confidentiality of CAM information. Learn and follow all college and SHSU brand standards. Assist and participate in the organization and execution of CAM-sponsored events that may include nights or weekends. Other duties as assigned.
