Position Overview:
The Cost Accountant will be responsible for tracking, analyzing, and managing costs related to production, labor, materials, and overhead. This role ensures the accuracy of cost data and provides insights to support financial decision-making. Key responsibilities include budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and identifying cost-saving opportunities. The position reports to the Controller.
Responsibilities:
Analyze manufacturing costs (direct materials, direct labor, and overhead) and prepare detailed reportsGenerate monthly, quarterly, and annual cost reports to assess profitabilityConduct variance analysis to compare actual costs with standard or budgeted costsAccurately allocate production costs across various products and cost centersProvide cost information to assist in product pricing decisions, including direct and indirect costsManage the accounting of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods inventoryEnsure accurate inventory valuation and reconciliation in line with cost standardsAssist in developing the annual budget for manufacturing costs, using historical data for accurate estimatesForecast future production costs based on market trends, labor rates, and material price fluctuationsIdentify inefficiencies in production and recommend cost-saving measuresCollaborate with production managers to develop and monitor cost-control processesEstablish and update standard cost systems for labor, materials, and overheadMonitor production and compare actual results with standard costs to ensure accuracy and profitabilityPrepare reports for senior management on cost trends, savings, and operational performanceEnsure compliance with internal policies and external regulations in cost accounting practicesAssist in internal and external audits related to cost accounting and financial dataDevelop and enforce internal controls to prevent cost misallocation or fraudStay updated on industry trends and changes in accounting standards related to manufacturing cost accountingPerform other duties as assigned
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field3-5 years of experience with cost accounting and financial analysis, preferably in a manufacturing settingStrong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirementsRelevant experience with inventory managementProficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel skillsExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skillsAbility to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environmentFamiliarity with lean manufacturing principles and practices preferred
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
Family owned (2nd generation) company with a lot of tenure! This company offers competitive pay along with 3 weeks PTO, 56 hours sick time, health benefits with three health plans to choose from. 3% match on 401k (contributing 6%), annual raises (profitability pending)
