Pay Range:
$55,600.00 - $91,450.00
Budgeted salary: 55-65K
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level Cost Accountant to join our finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or early-career professionals looking to build a strong foundation in cost accounting within a dynamic and collaborative environment. The role requires working onsite three days per week at our Minneapolis, MN office to ensure close coordination with operations, production, and finance teams.
This position will:
+ Perform accounting transactions accurately through timely preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, research requiring the application of accounting principles and practices
+ Will work under general supervision of the Minneapolis Cost Accounting Supervisor to do basic to moderately complex accounting activities
+ Assists in ensuring accounting transactions are executed in accordance with established standards of internal control and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
+ Applies knowledge of principles, practices and procedures to the completion of accounting assignments
Key Responsibilities:
+ Assist in collecting and analyzing data to determine the costs of business activities, products, or services.
+ Collaborate with the cost accountant supervisor to develop and maintain cost accounting systems and procedures.
+ Prepare regular cost reports that provide insights into cost variances, trends, and areas of improvement.
+ Help identify cost reduction opportunities and suggest strategies to enhance operational efficiency.
+ Assist in monitoring and tracking inventory levels, reconciling discrepancies, and performing regular inventory counts.
+ Collaborate with operations team to ensure accurate recording of inventory transactions and adjustments.
+ Accurately input and maintain financial data in the company's accounting software and databases.
+ Keep detailed records of cost-related transactions, ensuring data integrity and compliance with accounting standards.
+ Assist in comparing actual costs to budgeted or standard costs and identify discrepancies.
+ Help investigate and explain any significant variances and propose corrective actions as needed.
+ Assist in ensuring timely and accurate submission of financial information
+ Participate in the month end close by preparing journal entries and accruals; estimating amount to accrue, defer, reverse or change based upon historical data and knowledge of business
+ Research discrepancies and issues working with other team members to resolve
+ Gathers support for interim, SOX, and year end audit requests
+ Act as back up for other accounting staff to ensure proper staffing needs are met and to enable achievement of staff department goals
+ Other responsibilities as assigned
Job Qualifications:
+ 2 year accounting degree or requisite experience
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (experience with formulas, pivot tables, multi-faceted Excel spreadsheets, etc.) preferred
+ Experience with inventory management systems is a plus
+ Ability to work in a fast pace environment, excellent attention to detail, and possess good communication and problem solving skills
