Data Historian Systems Automation Engineer

The Data Historian Systems automation engineer will work as a member of the Process Automation Department at Eli Lilly, Limerick. The engineer will provide Automation, Process Controls and Data Analysis expertise and support for one or more operating areas across site.

Personal Considerations:

As the Limerick site operates on a 24/7 basis, the job may involve contact out of hours to provide technical assistance, possible non-scheduled call-in time to respond to plant emergencies and occasional scheduled call-in time to provide technical cover during technical transfers and major project activity (e.g. commissioning). Additionally, offsite travel, either within Ireland or abroad may occasionally be required for short durations to attend meetings or to receive training.

Key Responsibilities:

In line with the job outlined above, the following are typically the key tasks that would be expected of the role:

Provide day-to-day operation's support across the site’s campus where the building management system is in use. This includes manufacturing, warehousing, central utility plant and labs. The role will involve working with Engineering, Operations and many cross functional groups to trouble shoot issues, making changes to the site data historian system (OSI PI) in line with site change control procedures and site standards, responding to system events and performing routine system maintenance checksMaintain Data Historian System health and respond to issues as they ariseDevelop standard operating procedures, work instructions and other job aids to ensure the appropriate level of documentation is in place to train on, maintain and operate OSI PI, alarm management and alarm notification systems’.Provide subject matter expertise on data historian systems design, development, installation, testing, validation, and lifecycle support.Site Data Historian Custodian/ Subject Matter Expert responsible for;Ensuring solutions delivered by system Integrators, equipment vendors and others can be integrated to the site data historian per the site standards and data management strategies. This includes developing requirements for the system in line with industry and Lilly standards.Design, configuration, and testing of the platform (OSI PI). This includes:OSI PI Server InfrastructureOSI PI Integration with Emerson DeltaV DCS solutionOSI PI Interfaces with other systems (e.g. BMS, PLCs, Remote IO)OSI PI Asset Frame design and buildOther OSI PI related solutions such as PI VisionReviewing and approving functional requirements, design specifications, network architectures, application software, graphics and test specifications.Support cross functional teams when new equipment or data needs are identified.Communicating effectively on system status and any related system performance to management.Work collaboratively with global teams representing the site on initiatives related to the site Data historian.Ability to manage the system and related upgrade projects.Ability to develop strategies to ensure the system is maintained compliantly while also meeting operational needsPromoting the use of automation to improve productivity, operational efficiency and compliance.Adherence to Lilly corporate and site safety procedures and developing automation solutions with these in mind.Developing a ‘network’ of corporate contacts and leveraging corporate expertise when neededThe role is expected to work very closely with a wide spectrum of disciplines/stakeholders across the organisation

Educational Requirements:

Degree in Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics and Instrumentation, Electrical or Electronic Engineering or qualifications in other relevant data historian technologies with appropriate experience.

Additional Requirements:

7+ years working experience in Biopharma engineering, operations, or manufacturing.Experience with:OSI PI and related applicationsCybersecurity and IOT considerations when managing systemsAwareness of integrating other process automation systems such as DeltaV, BMS, PLC/HMI and similar control systems in a manufacturing environmentIndustrial communication protocols such as BacNet/IP, modbus, HART, OPC DA & UA, Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP,Remote I/OSystems performing backup and restore, disaster recoveryExperience of developing documents with Kneat electronic document management systemConfiguration and support of alarm management systems such as LogMateConfiguration and support of alarm notification systems such as Win911Demonstrated ability to participate in and facilitate decision-making.Demonstrated initiative, good planning and organisational skills, ability to prioritise tasks, commitment to task completion and timelines.Possess a keen technical curiosity and has demonstrated strong problem-solving skills and a desire for continuous improvementStrong collaborative skills with an ability to work effectively in a team environmentDemonstrated ability to influence peers and business partnersDemonstrated strong written and verbal communications skillsGood written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiencesKnowledge of GMP, regulatory requirements, computer system validationExperience with Root Cause Analysis methodologies
