Posting Summary Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM) is seeking a Dental Assistant for the Office of Clinical Affairs – Extramural Clinics.

This position is responsible for the daily routine operation of a site for the Extramural Clinics. The Dental Assistant will assist dentist during the examination and treatment of patients and assist Dental Hygienist, if needed. The position performs both chairside and desk-side duties, does administrative, sterilizing, and miscellaneous tasks, including but not limited to inventory, supply ordering, equipment maintenance, laboratory duties and radiation badge maintenance.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

Prepares room for each patient, which includes setting up instruments and supplies. Run H2O through lines and hand pieces after every patient, as per ADA recommendations. Seats patients, adjust chairs & light, drape patients with protective covers. Takes and records vital signs on each patient at each appointment and update medical history. Get doctors signatures/initials on these. Pass instruments to doctor during examination and treatment of patients. Chart results of doctors’ examination. Prepares dental materials for the dentist’s use. Maintains patient’s records in accordance with Quality Assurance Guidelines. Pour models, trims and evaluates the quality of diagnostic casts. Give post-operative instructions to patients and dismiss them. Maintains sufficient supplies on hand to efficiently run each operatory and the whole clinic, if assigned this duty. May be asked to cover at any one of the Dental centers in the Extramural Clinics.
