Dietitian Specialist 3-TPN/VAD

Job Summary: The Dietitian Specialist 3, Total Parenteral Nutrition and Vascular Access Device (TPN/VAD), completes nutrition consults and/or reassessments for patients receiving parenteral nutrition (PN) and/or Enteral Nutrition (EN) for inpatients and outpatients. Works collaboratively with members of the healthcare team to implement nutrition interventions and coordinates the nutrition care of the patient.  Provides education to patients and family members on parenteral or enteral nutrition. Attends and participates in patient care meetings and rounds, team meetings, and quality meetings. Conducts Performance Improvement (PI) reviews to assure for appropriate infusion solutions and catheter tip placement in order to improve patient care outcomes and reduce potential therapy complications . Provides inservices and lectures to clinical staff and requested audiences and assists in the development of practice guidelines and resource and reference material for nutritional support.  Precepts and mentors other clinical dietitians.  Serves as an educator and mentor for specialized clinical nutrition  rotations for dietetic and medical students, residents, fellows, other healthcare professionals, and students of Allied Health. Assists in coordination of clinical coverage, continuing education training of staff and the development of required inservices and competencies. Works shift as assigned by the supervisor. These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Graduate of accredited school with Bachelor or Master's degree in nutrition related fields  including completion of clinical practicum experience.  Minimum 3 years of clinical nutrition experience.

Knowledge and Skills: A thorough knowledge of clinical nutrition in area of specialty.  Handling/gripping, speed movements, fine dexterity, writing and speaking skills necessary for the job.  Able to operate calculator, computer, pager, copy machine and telephone.  Must be able to communicate effectively with others, collaborating and accepting direction, able to work calmly and courteously under pressure, display a positive and professional demeanor to patients, visitors, and co-workers, able to be consistent in enforcing Medical Center policies.  Ability to speak English fluently.  Ability to speak Spanish desirable.  Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, making judgments, make and follow through on plans, reasoning and problem solving skills, mathematical skills, must be able to organize and prioritize workload, detail oriented.  Ability to hear conversations in person and on the telephone.  Ability to speak clearly and with a volume required to carry on clear conversations in person and on the Telephone.  Ability to document effectively.  Ability to see information necessary for the position.

Licensures and Certifications: Certification from Commission on Dietetic Registration (RD) required.  Board Certification as a Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC).
