Job Description:

 

The Driver is based in the warehouse and reports to the warehouse manager, but also takes direction from the fleet manager as needed.  This candidate must hold a valid driver’s license and operate dump trucks and all other specialized heavy equipment. The Driver is time flexible and based on instructions from LaborChart, determines start time and appropriate equipment that is needed to execute a driving assignment.  When not on a run, the driver assists with fleet maintenance, warehouse administration and facilities support.

Responsibilities

Transports various materials, furniture and supplies to and from construction sites in dump truck, vans, and pick-up trucks

Has knowledge of how to safely load and unload materials in vans, dump trucks and pick-up trucks

Walks, inspects and tests the dump truck for any mechanical issues before and after every trip, including checking the oil, gas, water levels, lights and tires

Promptly reports any accidents or injuries to fleet manager, warehouse manager, and VP, Safety

Ability to read, respond, ask questions, follow job directions, and arrive on time as detailed in LaborChart via email and/or text

Ability to safely drive and operate the trucks in all weather conditions and experience to know when the trucks should not be driven

Maintains accurate driver logs

Refuels and keeps fleet reserve vehicles operational, clean and free from trash and debris

Keeps fleet reserve and warehouse vehicles clean, and takes fleet vehicle to the car wash if needed

Runs fleet and warehouse vehicles to ensure they are operational and notifies fleet or warehouse manager if any issues are identified

As requested by warehouse or fleet manager, takes vehicles to the automotive shop for repairs, inspections, emission tests, etc.

Assists with owner vehicle maintenance at the direction of the warehouse or fleet manager

Assists fleet drivers with vehicle related issues at the direction of the fleet or warehouse manager

Records rentals and consumable sales on appropriate form and brings any discrepancies to the attention of the warehouse manager

When needed, receives and logs all company deliveries and notifies respective recipients

Strictly adheres to HITT policy of wearing personal protection equipment (PPE) at headquarters and job sites

Operates warehouse forklift to load and unload deliveries from trucks

As needed, ensures visitors and safety protocols are carried out in the warehouse. This includes:

Having contractors sign in

Prohibiting non-HITT personnel beyond the warehouse without approval and an escort

Assists with outdoor grounds watering maintenance, keeping walkways clear and clean and watering plants as necessary, using a water buffalo

At direction of the warehouse manager and with other team members, sets up The HITT Way for all scheduled meetings and all HITT sponsored events at headquarters

At direction of the building engineer manager, assists with snow removal, changing interior and exterior lights, provides additional facilities support, as needed at all HITT facilities

As needed, covers warehouse on Saturdays from 5:00am – 1:00pm to provide support to site workforce that may need materials/rentals or be returning equipment; during this time driver will carry out projects assigned by warehouse or facilities manager

On a weekly basis distributes copy paper to all copy stations

Qualifications

US Citizenship (as required by several of HITT's Federal Government clients)

Minimum 2 years of driving experience

Ability to operate heavy equipment

Ability to clearly communicate with supervisors and project personnel

Software proficiency—able to adapt to and learn how to use project-specific software systems, including: Microsoft Office suite (ex. Word, Outlook, etc.)

Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred

If holds a CDL, must provide a medical certificate on an annual basis

Working knowledge of construction site safety and road safety regulations

OSHA 10-hour certification within (1) year

Forklift operator certification within (1) year
