Department Summary: MITRE is currently seeking Senior and Lead Economists to support the continued growth of our portfolio of applied economics work across an exciting and diverse set of sponsors. Focused on solving problems for a safer world, we conduct quantitative domestic and international economic modeling and analysis to inform and assess the impacts of changes to policies, regulations, technology, infrastructure, supply and/or demand. Our deep technical expertise and breadth of perspective provide insights into the broader economic effects of these changes, and we apply those skills within and beyond transportation sectors. Our teams have expertise in advanced econometrics, macroeconomics and microeconomics, industrial organization, forecasting, policy analysis, computable general equilibrium modeling, complex valuations, cost-benefit analysis, and spatial modeling/statistics. The team brings applied experience in government, industry, and academia. We also partner with leading practitioners from universities around the world in developing world class and one-of-a-kind capabilities. Our work includes sponsorship from across government agencies, as well as a robust applied research program. Candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment with a collegial team of applied economists providing an analytic basis for decision-making. To support the diversified sponsor base, the ideal candidate will have background in one of the following areas: transportation, critical infrastructure, geoeconomics, supply chains, production analysis, international trade, international finance, and applied macroeconomic modelling. This is an applied research environment where tasks are rarely routine and often require novel approaches. Roles and Responsibilities: Econometric and economic modeling and analysis, handling large datasets, making data driven analysis, policy analysis, sponsor engagement and support, economic analysis in support of regulatory policy, pre- and post-implementation analysis, forecasting, and applied research. Typical projects for this position include: + Policy assessment + Economic model development + Impact assessment in domestic and international economies + Benefit assessments + Custom research using advanced econometric techniques (time series, panel, discrete choice, reduced form causal inference, structural modelling, etc.) + Forecasting Minimum Qualifications: + Necessary skills include advanced econometrics (time series, discrete choice, panel, and additional methods), economic analysis, handling large data sets, and policy analysis. + Mathematical modeling. + Knowledge of economic data sets, such as but not limited to: Bureau of Economic Analysis, U.S. Census, IHS Markit, FRED, UN Comtrade, Bureau of Labor Statistics + Strong attention and accountability to detail required. Oral and written communication skills are essential. + The ability to work across diverse teams, departments, and other organizations with varied backgrounds in a collaborative environment is required. + Master’s degree in Economics or equivalent and 3 years of related experience. Academic (teaching, research) experience counts toward minimum. + U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
