Manhattan Star Academy, a member of the YAI Network, provides Elementary Education for students 3-21 years of age with intellectual developmental disabilities and learning delays, including children on the autism spectrum.

Job Roles & Responsibilities  

Coordinate the curriculum usage and implementation in each of the lower school classrooms.   

Oversee the curriculum implementation and instructional programs in lower school classrooms.   

Provide supervision and mentorship to special education teachers and teaching assistants to maintain fidelity and integrity of classroom instruction.  

Utilize research and past teaching experience to develop procedures and policies to ensure all student needs are being met through individualized instruction, tailored to the specific needs of each student.  

Support teachers and teaching assistants in effectively implementing individualized curriculum instruction.  

Observe and evaluate special education teachers and teaching assistants and promote implementation of best practices and successful teaching methods through consistent supervision and feedback.   

Work closely and collaboratively with all related services department leaders to create and maintain a cohesive and robust education program for all students encompassing all domains of special education.  

Act as liaison between special education teachers and teaching assistants and administrative staff.  

Plan school-wide events, assembly, and special programming days.  

Support in the researching, writing, and submission of grant proposals, and other fundraising efforts for the school.

Other Job Functions  

Assist other school personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work responsibilities.

Qualifications  

Three academic years or more of special education teaching experience  

Enrolled in or already completed School Building Leader (SBL) program and licensure 

Mentor teacher and/or coaching experience   

Ability to multi-task and manage several long- and short-term projects simultaneously.  

Comfortable providing all types of feedback with constructive next steps for ongoing progress and success.  

Optimistic and go-getter personality with the ability to take initiative.  

Ability to problem solve, communicate effectively, and facilitate directions to staff members.  

Ability to collaborate, solicit and consider input, guide others, and meet deadlines. 

 

Compensation 

$75,000 to $80,000/Year
