This position performs ambulatory and long-term monitoring (LTM) electroencephalograms (EEG), and/or visual, brainstem, and somatosensory evoked potential (EP) procedures and/or monitor epilepsy patients according to hospital and departmental policy and procedures. The EEG Technologist II position provides findings, results, and descriptive analyses according to policy and procedures and government regulatory agencies. This position independently performs high quality procedures in all areas and modalities appropriate to their competence and credentials. Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team focused work unit that actively helps one another to achieve optimal department results. Collaborates with all members of the patient care team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent patient care information and data in a comprehensive manner, working closely with nurses, phycians and other medical staff caring for the patient.Guides, teaches and mentors other EEG Technicians and Technologists and students to help build confidence in skills, knowledge and abilities. Provides technical supervision to lower ranking and/or non credentialed team members as required.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Communicates appropriately and effectively with the patient and staff to convey the purpose of the procedures and answers questions regarding the procedures.Performs patient assessment as related to care such as electrode fixation product allergies, movement restrictions, and cognitive function; knows and recognizes drug and physiological status effects on activity monitored.Stocks supplies and prepares patient rooms and equipment for upcoming procedures and performs any other related duties that are consistent with patient and technical care for this level.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Applies EEG technology in the epilepsy monitoring unit as well as during epilepsy surgery; independently performs EEG monitoring during: Wada, PET, ictal SPECT studies, tilt table testing, magneto encephalograms (MEG) as required.Independently performs EEG recordings for brain and epilepsy surgery such as a corpus callosotomy, lesionectomy, hemispherectomy, or hemispherectomy; assists with electrode set up and implantation of invasive electrode recordings; assists in the design and montage creation for invasive electrode recordings; assists with hook up of the patient with invasive electrodes upon their arrival to the epilepsy monitoring unit or intensive care unit; assists with cortical mapping procedures in the operating room and/or in the long-term neuromonitoring unit or ICU; recognizes clinically significant events and electroencephalographic and electrocorticographic patterns and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results.Maintains correct electrode connections; identifies and performs basic, intermediate and skilled technical troubleshooting and artifact identification and elimination; follows concepts of digital equipment and electrical safety with regards to the equipment; applies critical thinking to need for alternate montages, protocols, and alternate equipment settings and their effects on the test data.Independently performs EEG studies including bedside studies, epilepsy monitoring, and clinical EP studies.Identifies opportunities for corrective action and process improvement providing recommendations and contributes to meeting departmental and hospital targets for quality and safety. Assists with implementation and education of department-based safety initiatives and standards of practice.Reports ¿near misses¿ and inputs errors promptly into documentation system to improve processes and identify trends. Ensures all equipment utilized has had QC performed as required and is in safe working order prior to use. Reports any malfunctions to management and regularly practices preventive maintenance procedures; calls for service if needed.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures. Enters charges at the time service is delivered. Submits all reports, billing and other paperwork within a timely manner.Uses resources efficiently; does not waste supplies and reports low supply inventories. Recommends solutions in achieving departmental objectives. Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasks.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSLeads departmental projects and shared governance activities.Seeks opportunities to continually advance learning and skills beyond baseline and intermediate EEG and/or EP signal recognition, medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, infection control, contraindications for activation procedures, instrumentation,etc. with a focus on continual development as an EEG Technologist.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Three years' experience in the performance of END procedures of a progressively advanced nature in a patient care environment License/Certification LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS - REQUIRED
R-CLTM - Certified Long Term Monitoring (ABRET) ORMust have two of the following: R-EEGT - Registered Electroencephalographic Technician (ABRET) ORR-EPT - Registered Evoked Potentials Technologist (ABRET) ORRNCST - Registed Nerve Conduction Technologist (AAET) ORRPSGT - Registered Polysomnographer Technologist (BRPT) OREEG - Canadian Board Registered EEG Technologists (CBRET) ANDBLS - Basic Life Support (AHA) KSA/ Supplemental Data KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
