About the Role
As an Engineering Manager on the Mood Boards and Communications team at Houzz, you’ll lead a small but talented group of full stack engineers building the creative tools that designers and homeowners use to plan and visualize their dream spaces. You’ll be responsible for driving the technical direction and execution of projects, supporting the professional growth of your team, and collaborating closely with cross-functional partners to deliver high-impact features. Most importantly, you will nurture the team and allow team members to perform and excel. This role combines technical depth with team leadership in a fast-paced, product-focused environment backed by the strength and stability of a global brand.
Our stack includes React, Node, GraphQL, PHP, AWS, GitHub, Jenkins, Kubernetes, MySQL, Redis, Kafka, Docker, and more.What You’ll DoLead and grow a high-performing group of software engineers focused on Mood Boards and Communication tools and creative toolsGuide the technical architecture, execution, and quality of features impacting millions of usersPartner with product, design, and engineering leadership to shape the roadmap and ensure alignment with business goalsFoster a culture of ownership, continuous learning, and high engineering standardsProvide regular feedback, mentorship, and career development support to team membersSupport the team in project scoping, prioritization, and agile deliveryCollaborate with other engineering managers and technical leads across the organizationHelp improve team processes, code quality, and system reliabilityAt a Minimum, We’d Like You to Have5+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2-3 years in a technical leadership or engineering management roleHands-on experience with modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React) and backend development (e.g., , PHP, Python, Java)Proven ability to lead complex engineering projects and deliver high-quality software in productionStrong communication and collaboration skills across engineering, product, and designA track record of mentoring or managing other engineersB.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science or equivalent experienceIdeally, You'll Also HaveExperience scaling consumer-facing web applications and microservicesFamiliarity with observability tools such as Grafana, PrometheusExperience working in a DevOps environment with CI/CD, - containerization, and infrastructure tools like Docker and KubernetesComfort participating in and improving team on-call rotations, as well as bringing visibility on incidents to stakeholdersA user-centered mindset and a desire to create delightful product experiencesHouzz is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer.
