Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit Facilities Operations has the responsibility of providing a wide range of services to all administrative departments, student programs, and all academic schools and departments. Services include all aspects of corrective and preventive maintenance, operations, grounds maintenance, housekeeping, utility infrastructure maintenance and operations, business operations, safety, regulatory compliance, project management, and renovations. These duties are conducted for a campus consisting of over 100 buildings totaling 6 million gross square feet on over 275 acres.

The primary purpose of the Utilities Division is the operation, maintenance, and repair of all building operating systems. The primary purpose of the central steam plant is to produce and distribute steam to the central campus for building heat, domestic hot water heating, food preparation and clean up, and humidity control in rare and valuable book and art collection areas. The central steam plant is a major element in the University’s utility system and requires constant attention to detail. Steam is produced at 125 psig and is distributed to all campus buildings where it is reduced to a lower pressure for installed equipment. The steam plant is a 24-hour per day, 360-day per year operation (the plant is shut down 5 days in May of each year for maintenance) and this position is responsible for the total operation and maintenance of the plant. Position Summary The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate with the Utility Plant Operations Supervisors, four Utility Plant Operators, and various outside maintenance personnel to ensure proper preventive and corrective maintenance on all associated equipment. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of sophisticated control systems and equipment associated with the production and distribution of steam to campus. Responsible for the calibration and maintenance of gas monitors for the confined space entry program.

Key Responsibility Operation and Maintenance of Boilers Essential Tasks Ensure proper operation of a sufficient number of boilers to meet steam demand. Perform corrective maintenance on electronic and pneumatic boiler controls. Perform routine tests and adjustments to maintain correct limits, responses, and pressures.
