This position is with the Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence amp Security ARLIS a University Affiliated Research Center UARC under the UMD Vice President for Research VPR ARLIS is a growing organization with a start up atmosphere of independence and autonomy we are looking for people who thrive in an environment of significant project ownership and responsibility for outcomes ARLIS seeks to hire an early to mid career User Experience UX designer and user researcher as a Faculty Specialist all ranks Exceptional candidates in all areas related to ARLISs current research trajectories will be given serious consideration particularly those with experience in multiple areasYou will be part of up to three project teams Project work at ARLIS focuses on areas to include Strengthening the interdisciplinary and sociotechnical considerations for the design development test and evaluation of human machine interfaces Cognitive support and augmentation of human performance Simulations that describe data predict events and inform an operators course of action Experiments to measure and understand cognitive behaviors relevant to our sponsors As a User Experience Engineer and Faculty Specialist you will collaborate with other team members and stakeholders Assist in qualitative user research for the development of end user requirements Assist in collection of physiometric data of experimental participants Leveraging user requirements gathered in qualitative research to design user interfaces for complex human machine interactions This may include technologies such as ARVR big data dashboards or simulations of human behaviors as examples This work will include concept development and storyboarding Documentation of user research and findings Socialize explain and iterate on design concepts with stakeholders to include teammates users and sponsors Collaborate to develop undertake and document usability test and evaluation tasks This is a full time professional track faculty position PTK at the University of Maryland with benefits Salary is dependent on experience qualifications and hiring level Review of applications will begin immediately and continue on a rolling basis The preferred start date is as soon as possible
