Field Medical Excellence Lead

The Field Medical Excellence Lead will contribute to the ambition of driving field medical affairs excellence in US Immunology Medical Affairs. He/she will lead the strategic development and deployment of MSLs and iMOLs in the external healthcare community and will ensure competitiveness through differentiation from a capability and mindset perspective. The key mandate is to facilitate investment in the field medical teams to ensure their holistic development, career progression, and external impact.

Main areas of responsibility include:

Key contribution to Field Medical Guidance Development Training and holistic development of US Immunology MSL and iMOL teamsKey contribution to  field medical assessment and MSL Performance Management FrameworkOperational partnership with Global Medical Affairs and US Learning and Development in implementation and execution of Medical Excellence CapabilityMonitoring of Field Medical environment and anticipation of future ecosystem and industry needs & trends

Medical Talent Identification and Development (30%)

Participate substantively in the recruitment and hiring of new field medical team members.Develop onboarding, training, and assessment plan for new field medical employees in collaboration with MSL and iMOL managers.Supervise the training and onboarding for all newly hired MSLs and iMOLs.Develop and embed the iPVU E2E medical value proposition and excellence in execution mindset across the business and bring strategy-to-impact to the field MSL team.Connect existing team members with development opportunities (e.g., rotational roles, special projects, internal or external learning/courses, potential promotions) aligned with their professional objectives.  Lead career pathway mapping at individual and group levels.Foster and lead a culture of high performance, ensuring that UCB’s Field Medical leaders of the future are both developed and retained.

Strategic Planning and Collaboration (10%)

Contribute as Subject Matter Expert to cross-functional initiatives of which Field Medical Affairs is a key component, or which have a key impact on Medical – e.g., Launch Excellence, Quality of Care, Evidence Generation, Customer Experience, Patient Journey, Digital Business Transformation.Develop & support implementation of guidance & SOP on external medical engagement in close collaboration with UCB governance partners.Partner with TA medical Heads of Dermatology and Rheumatology deliver a value-to-impact framework across therapy areas via medical engagement plans, 4As, MSL engagement model, Medical Launch / Medical PVBP frameworks, Med Ed strategic frameworks, Medical continuous learning, etcAccelerate and harmonize medical excellence capability rollout and implementation across iPVU Medical in partnership with L&D and GMA partners, with prioritization and focus required by the launches and key milestones.Represent the US immunology field medical function to UCB Executive Leadership.Lead the strategic enhancement of the CRM system in collaboration with IT Function and CRM team.  Design and enhance related Field Medical processes in collaboration with IT Function and guide implementation of these technology enhancements.

Medical Capability Excellence (50%)

Advance US iPVU Field Medical vision and strategy to drive greater impact of US Field Medical teams in Rheumatology and Dermatology.In partnership with cross-functional teams, enhance and implement field team excellence framework and competency assessment to drive medical field team excellence.Develop a framework to prepare field medical teams to prepare for and support future product launches.Contribute to the development of pre/post-launch performance dashboards.  Evolve dashboards and reporting from quantitative activity metrics to impact and outcome KPIs. Contribute to the development of performance reports to be used as basis for business reviews.Continually evolve and advance Field Medical Insights capability to ensure high-quality and compliant insights to inform overall brand strategy.Develop and maintain a cross-TA MSL forum for MSL for feedback and best practice/learnings sharing. Ensure goals are accomplished within boundaries established by regulatory, legal and compliance and in accordance with company policies, processes, and sound ethical practices.

External Engagement (10%)

Drive development and implementation of Field Medical scientific interaction planning/engagement plans to enable consistency and greater effectiveness of field medical teams.Involvement in industry associations, congresses, and specific initiatives to identify key strategic insights, trends, and opportunitiesRegularly benchmark UCB field medical strategy and performance vs relevant competitors in Rheumatology and Dermatology.

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral degree such as PhD, PharmD, or MD requiredLeadership skills in influencing teams and individuals in matrixed environment. Negotiation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skillsScientific acumen and ability to translate scientific and clinical data into value proposition for the different stakeholders.Performance oriented business acumen and focus on delivering customer value and impactEffective communication, presentation and engagement skills including mastery of English language.Digital Literacy including proficiency in UCB’s CRM platform.Medical governance and compliance skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong medical affairs experience for a minimum of 7 years in regional/global setting with Field medical experience as MSL and/or Field medical manager preferredDemonstrated strength in strategic medical planning, tactical plan development and implementation Demonstrated networking and transversal collaboration skillsCustomer service and patient centric attitudeHas the ambition to improve processes and ways of working to create an agile and collaborative culture.

 

Expected Salary Range:  $159,480-$232,575$based on experience
