The Field Service Engineer - Automation under general guidance and minimal supervision, performs a wide range of engineering tasks and ensures proper installation, service and commissioning of products and services. Essential Responsibilities:
As a Field Service Engineer - Automation, you will:
Performs troubleshooting activities at site locations during scheduled Port visits or at sea to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolution, and implements corrective actions.Perform installation and commissioning activities on GE Power Conversion automation systems at customer site locations during ship constructionDevelop requisite documentation to execute work e.g. commissioning procedures, maintenance procedures daily logs etc.Perform a wide range of engineering tasks to ensure the technical integrity and proper installation and commissioning of GE automation systems at site locations.Execute on site project management and technical leader duties to resolve customer issues and provide customer satisfactionDevelop presentations and provides training and instruction to customersCoordinate additional opportunities to serve the customer with the customer service team, parts, other FSE’s, repair services, sales, and product engineering teamsAdvise the customer of recommended upgrades, parts, and service opportunities to improve customer productivity and sell GE parts and servicesCoordinate maintenance activities for the customer and planning for inspectionsProvide support to engineering teams working on customer CMU’s projectsProvide support the bidding process for the customer CMU’s projectsProvide on call support in response to customer calls for serviceComplete timely service reports and other administrative requirementsPerform work on-board vessels within GE / Customer safety guidelines either in shipyards or offshore.Extended hours / overtime maybe required during peak periods and emergency circumstances.Domestic or overseas travel to customer sites for extended periods of time.Qualifications/Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of field service and/or commissioning experience in a field service/ commissioning environment with automation systems in a marine environment.US Citizen with the ability to achieve security clearance for Department of Defense projectsAbility and willingness to travel up to 85% of the time on short noticeMust be physically fit to be able to board vessels offshore. Must be able to pass a HUET and offshore survival course which includes activities in a swimming pool.Desired Characteristics:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university (or Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university with a minimum 2 additional years of related industry experience)Possesses leadership qualities that align with GE behaviors.Background in a customer facing position within a Service environment.Ability to execute increasingly complicated assignments, which require considerable engineering skill and creative ability and independent judgment.The work environment at onsite locations is of a construction type setting. Whilst performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of trips, slips and falls. The noise level on-site or on-board ships can be excessive, personal protective equipment (PPE) will be required.
