FINANCIAL COUNSELOR
Job Summary This position of financial counselor is responsible for interacting with true self-pay and underinsured patients. Their primary focus will be patients who progress to an inpatient/observation status and have an out-of-pocket expense, as well as patients who do not wish to apply for any type of assistance and remain as true self-pay. Regarding the underinsured population, the counselor will verify patients benefits and connect with the patient during their hospital stay and collect deductible and copays for the hospital stay and collect deductible and copays for the hospital admission. For the true self-pay population, the counselor will prepare an estimate for the hospital stay and collect a good faith payment. The goal of this position it to inform the patient of their financial responsibility and collect patient payment prior to discharge. Additional responsibilities include connecting with parents of newborns and inform them of the process of adding the baby to their medical insurance coverage as well as collecting coverage information, if applicable. The counselor may also be asked to support the delivery of the various CMS documents depending on the needs of the department.
