Fire Prevention Specialist- Fire Inspector
**Summary** The **Fire** **Prevention Specialist** **-Fire Inspector** is responsible to perform fire inspections and re-inspections of NASA owned, operated, or leased buildings, checking for compliance with local, state, and federal fire codes, ordinances, and statutes as to fire hazards and fire protection equipment. This position must also document fire safety discrepancies and ensure corrective action is initiated. Physical fitness to perform these duties is essential and the Firefighter must always remain in full duty status to perform these functions. **Responsibilities** + Required to follow all company, personnel, and safety policies while performing all assigned duties in a safe work manner. + Will arrive at work on time and be in proper uniform with issued equipment. + Will be responsible for the cleanliness of uniform and equipment assigned. + Attends training courses, reads, and understands assigned material. + Performs fire inspections, conducts evacuation drills, completes reports, and updates files as required. + Writes violation/non-violation notices and related follow-up correspondence. + Knowledge of fire prevention methods, adopted fire codes, local and state fire ordinances, federal statutes, and regulations relating to fire prevention. + Knowledge of building construction, construction methods and materials, sources and types of fire hazards, fire prevention devices, and fire protection systems and equipment. + Ability to recognize hazardous conditions and to enforce codes and regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially. + Ability to read and interpret building construction plans and specifications and to recognize deviations from such plans. + Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with site managers, occupants, contractors, and the public in achieving fire prevention goals. + Attends fire prevention/safety meetings when required or requested. + Obtains required Continuing Education Units per the Statement of Work and State of Florida requirements. + Participates in facility or pre-hazardous operational walk downs. + Conducts fire safety briefings/training for KSC population. + Tracks all fire hazards and discrepancies until closure. + Issues hot work and space heater permits. + Inspects, maintains, installs, and recommends the purchase of replacement portable fire extinguishers for all NASA operated facilities and areas. + Participates and educates the KSC population in support of Fire Prevention Week. + Complies with department policies, rules and regulations. + Assures vehicle, equipment and workstation are clean and serviceable. + Participates in certification training classes when offered and pass such classes per the certification criteria. + Other duties as assigned **Qualifications** + Required Certifications: o Florida State Fire Safety Inspector I o NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800 + Must possess a high school diploma or GED. Must be at least 21 years of age. + Must possess and maintain a valid Class E Florida state driver’s license. + Must meet all standards as required by Performance Work Statement. + Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. + Must possess effective oral and written communication skills. + Honorably discharged from the Armed Services (If Applicable) + Successfully completed all training and obtained all required licenses, certifications and security/medical clearances for the site. + Have no record or history of illegal drug use, sale, possession, or manufacture. + Have no felony convictions and no convictions that reflect on the individual’s reliability. + Must be able to meet and maintain NASA Physical Certifications. + Must be able to successfully pass all required psychological examinations. + Must be able to meet drug testing and alcohol-free workforce requirements to include random drug and/or alcohol testing. + Must speak, read, write, and understand the English language, apply written rules, detailed orders, instructions, and trainingmaterial. _Knowledge,_ _Skills_ _and Abilities:_ + Skill in operating a personal computer and standard office equipment. + Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, (MSWord, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), and Outlook. _Physical Demands_ _:_ (The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
