General Maintenance Worker - Bronx - New York, New York

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform cleaning, housekeeping, and light maintenance tasks and services throughout assigned property. Identify and report any building maintenance or repair issues. Perform light repairs and maintenance such as replacing light fixtures or clearing blocked pipes. Perform basic carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical work as assigned. Clean and sanitize shared facilities and common spaces. Mop floors daily. Wash windows as needed. Empty trash containers and remove garbage daily. Ensure floors and hallways are always kept free of debris. Vacuum and clean floors, rugs, furniture, and drapes. Assist with moving furniture, supplies, and other items as necessary. Perform limited grounds maintenance such as mowing and trimming lawns and hedges and cleaning snow from sidewalks. Examine property for safety hazards and report problems to Superintendent or other appropriate staff. Check fire/life safety equipment as scheduled and report issues to the Superintendent. Perform minor adjustments, repairs and maintenance on heat and air conditioner units under supervision by Superintendent. Ensure that cleaning and maintenance supplies are stocked as needed. Collaborate with a team of workers and other professionals during renovations. Report to Superintendent and/or Program Director regarding issues resolved, those needing attention, and those currently in progress. Perform other related duties as required.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

High School Diploma or Equivalent.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Commercial and/or residential maintenance experience doing carpentry, painting, sheetrock repair, minor plumbing repairs, or minor electrical repairs. Ability to perform carpentry, painting, and minor plumbing, electrical and drywall repairs. Thorough understanding of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions. Detail-oriented and thorough ability to perform basic repairs and operate tools or equipment used in routine maintenance. Must be able to read and understand work orders to perform assigned jobs. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to assess priorities, take initiative, handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines. Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with people of diverse educational, cultural, and professional backgrounds. Courteous demeanor toward staff, customers, clients, and visitors to the property. Must be a responsible individual with a reputable character, known to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and work well under pressure and demonstrate a calm manner during crises. Acknowledge and apply self-care and work-life balance for self and others.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands of the job include standing, bending, pulling, pushing, climbing, and lifting at least 50 pounds. Able to travel between sites throughout NYC. Able to work outdoors in adverse conditions (heat or cold).
