GENERAL PURPOSE: The histology technician is responsible for all of the functions of processing tissue samples for histological diagnosis by a pathologist. This includes grossing, embedding, microtomy, special stains and processing Immunohistochemistry slides. **RESPONSIBILITIES:** + Gross sections of human tissue for examination. + Operates laboratory equipment to embed, section and stain specimens. + Operate equipment to perform special staining and Immunohistochemistry stains as requested. Some manual staining may be required. + Examine slides under microscope to ensure that slides meet laboratory quality standards. + Follows all departmental and organizational policies, procedures, quality objectives and safety standards and keeps current with changes in laboratory processes and procedures. + Performs maintenance on laboratory equipment including but not limited to preventative, routine and troubleshooting.
