Summary:
Performs routine histological processing of surgical, cytology, autopsy and frozen section of tissue for examination and interpretation by a Pathologist as defined by the standards of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1998.
Responsibilities:
Ability to cross-train for all duties and responsibilities in the department
Performs routine embedding, microtomy, general lab tasks and all types of surgical and cytology specimens.
Performs accessioning of histology, cytology, and autopsy specimens and billing functions into the computer systems.
Performs special stains techniques using automated equipment.
Assists in the gross room, records each specimen into the log book and loads tissue processors along with verifying the correct program is being run.
Operates and maintains equipment necessary for the function of and provision of services performed by the department.
Performs send-out protocol to reference laboratories.
Files all blocks and slides in the department.
Performs Immunohistochemistry staining techniques using automated equipment.
Performs cytology duties including preparing ThinPrep slides and cell blocks.
Grosses a variety of specimens according policies and procedures.
Demonstrates basic computer literacy.
Ability to work in a team environment to achieve department goals.
Must have the ability to read, write and demonstrate an understanding of the histology procedures.
Must be able to communicate with patients, physicians, pathologists, hospital staff and co-workers in an effective, courteous and professional manner. Demonstrates comprehension and command of the oral and written English Language communication.
Proficiency in basis medical terminology.
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Supports the Mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Hospital.
What you will need:
HT (ASCP) Certification or Associates/Bachelor's Degree with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry (HT (ASCP) eligible).
3-5 years of experience in a histology laboratory setting.
Pay range: $29.13 - $40.79
Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
