The general role of the HDD (Horizontal Directional Drill) Technician I – Fiber Optics is to be responsible for all duties associated with and related to the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of directional drills as well as potholing, installing conduit, pulling cable, installing handholes, pedestals and marker posts.  This position will be expected to be involved with all drilling, conduit installation, cable pulling, and other installation and network repair work as required.  Other primary duties are to perform general site preparation, restoration, and right-of-way maintenance duties as well as perform preventative maintenance and inspections on equipment.

 

This individual understands each product and supports the improvement of operational efficiency and must be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.

 

The HDD Technician I reports to the Project Manager - Fiber Optics and will work primarily out of their assigned location.

What You'll Bring No prior experience necessary but horizontal directional drilling experience is preferredValid Driver’s License is required, CDL A preferredExperience with bucket truck, cable puller, and reel stands preferredExperience operating small equipment preferred (i.e., forklift, bobcat, telehandler, skid steer, etc.) Basic knowledge of earth moving/excavation equipment preferredGeneral construction and/or flagging experience preferredComfortable working in confined spacesExperience and knowledge of underground utility installations preferredAbility to read, interpret, and follow OSP (outside plant) design drawings and job specifications preferredAbility to work effectively under minimal supervisionPossess strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to maintain professionalismCompute basic math calculations and take measurementsFamiliar with Microsoft Software such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
