A restaurant manager typically hires hourly managers to help run the restaurant and to be in charge in the managers absence. Hourly managers are assigned a variety of job duties that vary by restaurant. If a customer has an issue or complaint while the hourly manager is on duty, it is their job to handle it. In many cases, the hourly has the same weight of authority as the restaurant manager when it comes to ensuring that guests have a pleasant dining experience. Depending on the restaurant, the hourly manager may also help the general manager interview and hire employees. If an employee habitually violates restaurant policy, the hourly manager has the authority to discipline the employee.
