IT Project Manager

Technical PMO

 

Role Mission:

This position will lead projects for our Information Systems and IT Systems teams of engineers, system administrators and software developers. They will be responsible for all aspects of project delivery—ensuring we achieve the quality, schedule, and cost commitment of projects.

 

This position will manage a portfolio of technical projects with varied degrees of complexity and scope to achieve strategic business goals and operational objectives. They will serve as the primary interface to customers for projects. They will use established project management disciplines and processes for managing scope, resources, schedule, risks, issues, and change management. They will drive creative alternatives to project challenges, partner with others to drive standardization across the portfolio of projects and collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.

 

Location: This is a full-time remote position based in Texas with preference given to candidates who live in Austin, El Paso, Fort Worth, Houston, Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, or who are willing to relocate.

 

Travel Expectations: This role may require up to 15% travel.

 

 

 

What You’ll Do – Accountabilities

 

Essential Duties:

·           Manage a portfolio of technical systems projects and effectively monitor and manage risks, issues, and changes in partnership and alignment with customer expectations, IDEA staff, and established standards.

·           Lead, plan, direct, and coordinate activities for complex work efforts to accomplish goals and objectives within the prescribed timeframe and budget.

·           Manage and execute multiple technical project deliverables to control scope.

·           Create and manage project plans related to schedule, budget, scope, and resources.

·           Establish overall project governance, communication with impacted stakeholders and project communication and change management plans.

·           Understand each project's critical path activities and proactively manage those to project's benefit.

·           Ensure sound technical engineering is incorporated in project plans by working with system administrators and engineers.

·           Assist with implementation of Project Management Office (PMO) frameworks and best practices across projects.

What You Bring – Competencies

 

Knowledge & Skills:

·           Senior practitioner knowledge of project management, infrastructure engineering, and system implementation lifecycles.

·           Senior practitioner knowledge of one or more project methodologies (PMBoK, PRINCE2, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.)

·           Strong communication skills and ability to align project management best practices and reporting with strategic goals.

·           Excellent time management and organizational skills and experience establishing guidelines in these areas for others.

·           Ability to stay calm and positive, while also being driven by a sense of urgency.

·           Able to navigate conflicting requirements and opinions to drive decision-making.

·           Experience working in a high-level collaborative environment and promoting a teamwork mentality.

·           Highly analytical, quickly able to understand the technical landscape and inter-dependencies.

·           Able to map technology to business process and vice versa.

·           Experience in high-growth, fast-paced, mission critical environments

·           Process-oriented approach with a customer-centric and empathetic attitude

Qualifications:

EducationBachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in Project Management, Business Management, or Business Administration preferred.CertificationsProfessional Project Management Certification from an accredited institution such as CompTIA Project+ or CAPM (PMP or PRINCE2 Practitioner preferred)CompTIA Network+ preferredCompTIA Security+ preferredITIL 4 Foundation (Specialist preferred)Years of experience3+ years of IT Project Management experience leading multiple, large-scale, cross-functional technical projects in a complex environment3+ years of experience using PPM and CWM tools to manage a project portfolio (Asana, Microsoft Project Online, Monday.com, Quickbase, Smartsheet, Wrike, etc.)Proven experience leading delivery of complex engineering and technical implementation projects using both agile and waterfall project delivery.Required technologyHigh familiarity with Microsoft 365, database systems, etc.Preferred experienceExperience in the project management oversight of the software development life-cycle, helping companies through all phases of an implementation.Extensive work experience in managing vendors, their work allocation, and delivery.Experience with information security, privacy and retention standards and regulations like FISMA, NIST, FERPA, HIPAA.Experience with virtual servers and cloud-hosted solutions (VMware preferred).

Compensation & Benefits:

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $74,700 and $87,100, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.
