Description/Job Summary Janitor Job Description The external and internal appearance of a building is reflected on the occupants. It is important for a janitor, or custodian, to be careful and thorough in cleaning and tidying the premises The ideal candidate will be experienced in a janitorial role focused on building upkeep. A keen eye for detail and diligence are imperative in custodial maintenance jobs. Essential Functions + Cleans and maintains buildings/facilities. Performs heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. + Complies with all safety, security, compliance, and quality standards and procedures established by the Company, Clients, and regulatory authorities + The janitor must be flexible and willing to complete all tasks that are assigned. Responsibilities + Cleans building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them. Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures. + Sometimes using ladders, dusts and washes furniture, walls, machines, and equipment; cleans ceilings and dusts and polishes light fixtures. + Moves cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates and equipment to clean areas, either manually or by using hand trucks + May remove stains from such surfaces as rugs, drapes, walls, and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions. + Mixes water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications + Cleans and vacuums carpeted areas, including application of spot cleaning treatment + Gathers and empties trash + Wipes and cleans tabletops, chairs, and equipment in food areas + Cleans and polishes furniture and fixtures + Services, cleans, and supplies restrooms + Periodically cleans overhead vents, dusts blinds, and polishes wood furniture + Cleans interior partition glass, windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees + Must keep supply closet/areas neat and orderly and maintain equipment in good working order Qualifications: + Ability to provide cleaning services within a commercial, industrial or residential environment. + Demonstrated history of related cleaning experience preferably with a major institution, and a solid work ethic. Additional Responsibilities: + Adhere to safety policies and procedures + Understand the employee handbook, hazard communication program, bloodborne pathogen procedure and all safety policies and procedures. + Participate in scheduled safety training. Physical Requirements + Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. + Push and pull up to 50 lbs. + Stands and moves within assigned work area, or building for 6 to 7 hours (excluding breaks and lunch) + Some bending, stooping and reaching as necessary to complete the work Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.
