Jr. Machinist
JOB PURPOSE: At H3X, we are building the most advanced electric propulsion systems in the world to enable sustainable electric aircraft. At 12 kW/kg continuous, the HPDM family of integrated motor drives is a step change in electric propulsion technology and removes one of the main barriers blocking widespread proliferation of electric aircraft. We have several power classes of motors ranging from 30kW to 3MW and are selling to markets of aviation, aerospace and defense, marine, and specialized ground vehicles. We are looking to hire a Jr. Machinist who will be responsible for fabrication of parts, setting up CNC machines, and upkeep of the H3X machine shop. The ideal candidate will have an associate degree in Precision Machining or similar, have 0-2 years of experience in a shop environment and have great attention to detail. This is a dynamic role that will apply machining practices in a variety of ways and must be flexible to adjust to critical-path deliverables and quick-turn machining operations. This role will have exposure to a range of different machines, and candidates should be interested in a long-term position at H3X to develop their skills to eventually become a more proficient machinist. RESPONSIBILITIES: + Set up and run CNC machining centers, manual mills and lathes, and other shop equipment. + Machine a broad range of materials, including exotic metals. + Produce precision components (<= .0005”) from prints, modify existing parts, and inspect form and fit. + Make, modify, or improvise tooling and fixtures when needed to complete assignments. + Perform organizational activities as it comes to tooling, stock, and other machine shop needs. + Build up and break down tooling. + Learn and apply new machining techniques and operations as needed to complete parts. + Perform inspection of components using equipment such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, surface plates, and bench centers as per GD&T standards. + Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and tools. + Work closely with Engineers and other Machinists to optimize design, workflow, and part production.
