Kodiak Refrigeration Operator

Essential Functions/Qualifications 

 The responsibilities of the position include the following:  

Oversee and manage Refrigeration, Electrical, and HVAC systems including monitoring and trending.  Troubleshooting and repairs of (Compressors, condensers, fans, heating, cooling, contactors, motors, microprocessors, frequency drives, etc.  Conducting preventive maintenance (PM’s) within established timelines (Oil analysis, filter changes, calibration of sensors and transducers, compressor alignment checks/adjustments, etc.  Leak detection, conducting required inspections and reporting, evaluating and implementing energy management strategies, ensure product integrity is maintained through temperature monitoring & control.  Evaluating and reporting equipment condition, clear and concise communication with Management.  Responsible for logging time and materials into computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) daily in the form of work orders, PM’s.  Responsible for daily communication of all pertinent information regarding system operation and maintenance to departmental management and maintenance teams.  Responsible for housekeeping and clean-up of refrigeration machine rooms, refrigeration maintenance areas, and all project areas  Required to interpret and understand plans and specifications, schematics, operating and maintenance manuals for systems being overseen.  Assist management in developing standard operating procedures, daily work schedules, and duty cycles for all repairs and maintenance for refrigeration and HVAC systems.  Assist in managing outside mechanical and refrigeration contractors conducting service, repair and new contract work. Assist management in creation of budgets for individual projects, yearly capital, and yearly operating expenses. This position will also assist the building and material handling equipment maintenance teams when needed.Duties will include assisting in general building repairs, electrical troubleshooting and repairs, forklift repair and maintenance, changing and servicing lift batteries, and other general maintenance activities.Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.

 Functional 

Able to read and understand documents such as safety rules, procedure, operating manuals and maintenance instructions. Able to write daily reports, memos, and correspondence. Able to speak effectively and clearly to all employees, visitors, and customers in the facility. Able to calculate figures, amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. To perform this job successfully, employees should have knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, word processing software and presentation software. Specialized knowledge needed in ammonia refrigeration, glycol/brine system, FRICK system operating platform, HAZMAT, OSHA, Good Manufacturing Processes, PSM and RMP. Must be willing to obtain OSHA Level A HAZMAT & Medical Certification (24 Hour)  

Interpersonal 

Education and Experience 

Trade School Certification, or equivalent. Minimum of four years’ experience in Refrigeration/Electrical/HVAC. RETA (CIRO) Certification is required.

Physical Demands 

To perform this job, employees are regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Employees are occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Able to work in congested areas with limited egress. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. 

 Mental Activities 

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is required to understand English, and utilize teamwork skills. Focus and concentration on numbers accurate and detailed reports are critical in this position. Demonstrate understanding to the risks of work connected with ammonia, pay attention to details. Employee is required to speak English and use decision making skills. The employee is occasionally required to use interpersonal, mentoring, problem analysis, training and supervision skills. The employee will be occasionally required to read and write English, perform basic math, use exercise independent judgment, and use discretion.
