Position Summary:


We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Manager.

The Laboratory Manager is a specialized research professional who under the direction of the Associate Director works on all technical and QC functions for the lab. The Laboratory Manager will provide direct professional support of research activities. This position involves familiarity with handling, processing, storing, and distributing human specimens; maintaining an up-to-date database, and working with other members of the research team on quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) of the biorepository.

Job Responsibilities:

Manage day-to-day biorepository operationsManage personnel responsible for biorepository and research sample receipt, accessioning, internal and external tracking, processing and fulfillment, to ensure samples are processed in accordance with established protocols and timelinessIdentify and mitigate risks to ensure sample integrity, ensure all service/process failures are identified, investigated, and resolved appropriatelyDevelop systems to manage long-term sample storage, retrieval, and audit proceduresManages multi-institutional biorepository studiesManage all shipping and receiving activities for biorepository specimens to/from external sitesManage and support integration of sample database with ITPurchase laboratory and IT equipment, negotiate large scale supplies purchases for the biorepositoryTrack and organize preventive maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting of equipmentOversee lab safety and regulatory complianceCoordinate removal of hazardous waste by external vendorsManage temperature controlled asset storage and equipment emergency alarm systemServe as safety coordinator and primary lab emergency contact. Enforce compliance with safety and lab procedures among all lab personnelWrite and revise relevant Standard Operating Procedures and/or work instructionsRepresent the center on meetings for new biorepository research studiesParticipates in monitoring and auditing activitiesMay identify quality and performance improvement opportunities and collaborate with staff in the development of action plans to improve qualityTrains new employeesPerforms bench work as neededPerforms all responsibilities in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, CAP accreditation, IRB protocols, HIPPA, established guidelines and work instructions, and appropriate industry and Good Clinical Practices standardsPerforms other related duties as assigned.Communication and Relationship to Other Staff:Maintain confidentiality of all research informationExcels in cooperation, collaboration and communication with all NYULH employeesCommunicate professionally and precisely with staff and clientsMaintain a professional working relationship with all staff and clientsCommunicate ideas, problems, and suggestions in a timely and effective manner
Judgement/decision-making:Is able to recognize problems as they occur, and through the application of
appropriate policy/procedure, determines and/or recommends the appropriate
solution. Must be able to troubleshoot.Seeks guidance as necessary for the performance of duties; asks appropriate
questions when in doubt and utilizes reference sources/materials to ensure accuracy.Advises appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow-up attention.

Minimum Qualifications:


Master’s Degree in life science or health-related field or 5+ years of clinical or research laboratory experience
- Excellent interpersonal communication both through technology and in person
- Good analytical skills to evaluate the importance and urgency of problems, ability to solve non-routine issues
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced setting
- Strong organizational skills, time management, as well as patience and steady commitment toward achievement of goals
- Strong computer skills (LabVantage, iLab, File Maker Pro, Microsoft Office)
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $81,325.15 - $90,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
