Lead Engineer - Nuclear Site & Building Layout

This position is hybrid in nature requiring 2 days/week on-site at the Westinghouse Global Headquarters facility in Cranberry Woods, PA in the Greater Pittsburgh Area.  We are able to entertain all candidates authorized to work without sponsorship now and in the future as we are unable to sponsor Visa's for this opportunity.

 

Your Day-to-Day:

The position is within the Layout Engineering group in the Global Engineering and Component Services organization. The primary roles within this group include nuclear plant site and building layout, equipment, piping & HVAC layout, seismic interaction assessments, internal/external missile assessments, fuel handling and material handling equipment & tooling design, commodity clearance evaluations, flooding evaluations and other hazard protection evaluations. The position provides broad-ranging experience of advanced nuclear plant designs including interfaces with systems, equipment, structures, and physical plant arrangement. 

The Lead Engineer is a deputy manager role for the Layout Engineering Group by fulfilling lead/supervisor responsibilities. Provide leadership and coordination during preparation of proposals (work scope definition, coordination of technical descriptions, scheduling, resource estimates) Lead technical coordination between numerous functional disciplines, customers, and vendors to ensure overall plant design meets design parameters, requirements, and support the design, fabrication, construction, and maintenance of large-scale nuclear and non-nuclear projects. Lead the performance of physical arrangement assessments of the nuclear island structures, equipment, piping, commodities, and supports using multi-dimensional (3D) design software. Lead preparation of technical reports to satisfy applicable regulatory, code, and/or contract requirements. Lead engineering support and problem solving to design, fabrication, and construction organizations including responding to requests for information (RFI’s), identifying design changes, and addressing deviations by interfacing with engineers in different functional areas and global work locations. Drive continuous improvement and recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products, processes, and/or procedures, and contributes to development of new methods and processes, as well as their introduction. Support the group manager in workload planning and resource assignments. Support new engineer onboarding and training. Lead innovation and internally funded activities.

 

 

Who You Are:
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:

Proven engineering leadership not limited to: Managing teams in challenging situations. Frequent interactions with customers and vendors. Ability to ”get things done” within Westinghouse through extensive operational and organizational know-how. In-depth knowledge of nuclear plant layout, plant design, and Industry Codes and Standards. Strong technical interest, predisposition for multi-tasking, flexibility, understanding of project priorities and teamwork abilities. Strong visual and spatial design skills Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and time management skills Strong problem-solving skills Strong leadership and program management skills A capability to embrace work in a highly diverse environment, with team members from diverse cultures and experiences in integrated global teams, respecting and leveraging each team member’s contribution. Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Civil/Structural/Architectural or Mechanical Engineer). 10+ years of related experience preferred. Professional Engineering License preferred.
