Lead -Kettle Operator - Galvanizing (Days)

Scope of Responsibility: This position is a working lead and a liaison between Sabre Galvanizing leadership and kettle or pre-treat areas employees and leads the department to accomplish specific production goals while working safely and conscientious of quality.

Essential Duties:

Ensure all galvanized products meet Sabre quality requirements and promote efficiencyLead, guide, motivate and communicate to employees professionally and competentlyProvide training and development to new and existing employees to cultivate high performing teamsDirect and assign work to employees within their specific area as needed to reach production goals Operate overhead crane to maneuver heavy steel products hanging from large racksInspect all lifting equipment prior to use (forklifts, cranes, etc.)Ensure ash is swept from kettle on a continual basis. Ensure ash is free of zinc and store ash in barrels for later useAdd zinc and other alloys to the kettle and pre-treat in order to maintain proper levels and proper quality of product. May require operating forkliftsDross kettle (remove sludge) on a pre-determined schedule according to Sabre guidelinesMaintain safe and efficient kettle temperatures and kettle zinc levels at all timesRead work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needsAdhere to established housekeeping standardsMinimize downtime and delays with efficient processing and employee directionTrain and assess employees’ competencies in the Skill-Based Pay processAdditional duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Management

Position Requirements:

Prior Galvanizing and/or Manufacturing experience requiredExperience using forklifts and cranes requiredAbility to read, write and speak in English requirePrior Lead/Supervisory experience in a manufacturing facility highly preferredHigh School Diploma or GED Equivalent preferredAbility to oversee the production of 5 employees and manage job orders while completing tasks promptlyAbility to plan, organize, pay attention to details and multi-task in a fast-paced work environmentAbility to work well with people in a number of positionsRegular and on-time attendanceWork in your shift as scheduledMust work well with others

Physical Requirements:

Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 75 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 50 pounds of force constantly to move objectsMust be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, tugging, stooping, bending, twisting, crawling and handling of materialsPosition requires manual dexterity, ability to pick/pinch and work with fingers, repetitive motions of wrists/hands/finger, arm-hand steadiness and a safety-minded individualEffectively and safely utilizes ladders, manlifts, forklifts, overhead cranes, etc. Ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and armsMust be able to work in an open environment for long shifts (including weekends) exposed to extreme temperatures, standing entire shiftMust have the ability to concentrate on tasks for long periods of time and be able to observe and receive information from all relevant sourcesThe worker is required to have visual acuity to make general observations of facilities or structures
