Summary:
Responsible for the day-to-day management of security operations, transportation and locksmith services at Baystate Medical Center As the senior manager, oversees day to day operations of security leaders at other sites. Provides input to and implements the security management plan and life safety management plan to provide for the security and safety of employees, visitors, patients and others for Baystate Medical Center and Springfield satellite sites. Responsible for budget, final staffing models and training of security staff. Training includes: the new officer program, annual in-service training, specialty training in CPI and other certification programs. The manager also ensures compliance with Springfield Police Department required training for special police officers. Coordinates training for community hospital officers. Has oversight of fire safety, access control systems and critical programs, security liaison and officer shadowing. Maintains and interprets benchmarking data. Develops and maintains performance metrics and dashboards as agreed upon by the Security Director. Attends facilities planning meetings and conferences to provide security input to design of security systems. Represents the department at other meetings including, but not limited to: Whitney Ave operations meetings, Behavioral Health Care Action Committee, and Homeless Committee Planning. Attends operational meetings in absence of the Security Director or present member of select committees. Oversees data entry of reports to ensure quality control. Develops deployment of CCTV, supervises investigations, generates trend reports and incident analysis. Assists in planning of emergency drills and functional exercises. Manages activity of the security supervisors. Dotted line responsibility to Baystate Mary Lane and Baystate Wing. This position serves as the Senior Security Manager in the Department.
Job Responsibilities:1) Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Security department to include coordination of assignments and investigations, assignment of personnel, coordination of police matters and coordination of life safety issues.
2) Responsible for the supervision and payroll at Baystate Medical Center. Oversees the selection, orientation, training and development and performance evaluation of supervisors and officers. Directs the administration of discipline and makes recommendations on terminations. Builds and maintains a positive work environment; ensures positive employee relations; addresses employee issues; administers HR policies and all BHS policies and directs the engagement program. Works in a collaborative relationship with Human Resources.
3) Implements security plans and procedures and assists in the development of protocols and policies that enhance the Security environment. Works with managers across the medical center in creating plans for improving the security of staff and patients. Represents the department at open forums and other informational and educational programs with staff across the medical center.
4) Directs the administration of the training program for all officers and coordinates instructors, assigns personnel and maintains records of attendance at security related programs.
5) Coordinator for all electronic systems in the department; providing oversight, maintenance coordination and testing. Works with managers to improve security at sites by recommending systems appropriate to their areas.
6) Prepares the Security operating budget and provides input to the department capital budget. Prepares monthly reports and analysis of compliance with budget targets.
7) Coordinates and reviews the activities of the department investigator. Assigns work, directs specific activities and approves closure of investigative activity. Conduct investigations of a highly sensitive nature, as necessary.
8) Maintains close working relationships with local law enforcement and fire departments regarding issues of mutual interest. Represents the medical center on the Beat Management Council for community policing in the North End of Springfield.
9) Has dotted line responsibilities to the Security Departments at Baystate Mary Lane and Baystate Wing to include recruiting, hiring and training of officers. Administers HR policies and procedures that include corrective actions.
10) Attends facilities and planning meetings to provide input on the design of security systems.
11) Represents the department at various committee meetings including- Whitney Ops, BEHAC -Emergency Dept, and Homeless meetings.
12) Attends operational meetings in absence of the Security Director as required.
13) Directs the activities of supervisors and coordinators at Baystate Medical Center, Baystate Mary Lane and Baystate Wing. Responsible for the training, professional development and employee relations performance of these direct reports.
Required Work Experience:1) Pertinent experience in criminal justice, policy work or corporate security
2) 5-8 years experience in security in healthcare
Preferred Work Experience:1) 3 years of management experience, budget and personnel background is preferred
Skills and Competencies:1) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
