Manager Woodyard Operations

The opportunity:

The Manager Woodyard Operations reports to the Manager Pulp Mill and supervises the Woodyard Area Day Supervisor/OMC.  This position is responsible and accountable for all Woodyard day to day operations, personnel, safety, environmental impact, cost center, and quality and production requirements which is coordinated through the shift Team leaders.   Managing daily production resources, interfacing with other departments, and troubleshooting any operational and/or quality issues is the primary focus of this role.  The overall objective and responsibility are to ensure the personnel have the tools and information needed to perform their jobs safely and effectively.

 

 

How you will impact WestRock:

In this role, you’ll be entrusted with the stewardship of assets and be expected to make timely operational decisions to maximize mill production with respect to mill issues. As a key leader in the department, you will drive shift performance to meet departmental objectives with a key focus on continuous improvement.Drive safety engagement, awareness, and adherence to safety policies and proceduresActively apply and ensure alignment with the quality policies and principles.Manage all aspects of costs related to the woodyard area and work to maximize and improve costs, yields, and waste.Ensure environmental policies and practices are adhered to.Drive team effectiveness through continued employee development and performance management Responsible for conducting business with integrity and respect, being accountable, and actively pursuing excellence to help achieve WestRock’s Path To One goals.


 What you need to succeed:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical discipline or a minimum of 10 years supervisory experience in a pulping or papermaking position.Experience in Woodyard operations, chip handling, and system operations is preferred.General understanding of a paper mill operations and interdependencyAbility to lead and motivate others in the areas of safety and production.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of the organization.Ability to clearly define objectives and be effective in involving others in achievement of these objectives.Dedicated to continuous improvement in the Woodyard department with special emphasis on safety, quality, environment, production, and cost.Call duty required.Aligned with our company values of Integrity, Respect, Accountability, and Excellence
